Is there a discrete way to put up a HAM antenna in a subdivision?  I live in a densely populated neighborhood and am thinking about getting into HAM, but would like to keep my HAM capability low key if possible.

Do you Have an attic? if so you can string a dipole up in it for HF.... that's what I run for 20 & 40m. I also Have a 2m ground plane up there thats works great for that.

Hell... any ungrounded metal and a good tuner. And a good filter.

For what kind of frequency bands and usage?  HF? VHF/UHF FM/repeaters?  All of the above?

ETA:  Tons of amateurs over the years have enjoyed the beauty of a nice flagpole in the front yard  It's also pretty easy to homebrew (or they are available on the market) an antenna in plastic pipe that hides nicely on rooftop plumbing vent pipes.  If you're building the house you could even just add a few extra dummy vents up near the roof peak.

Do some research on PRB-1.

The way I understand it the FCC preempts local ordinances, but you might be SOL if your subdivision has a restrictive covenant.  Check to see if your state has it's own amateur radio antenna legislation.  I know that NC has its own legislation.
