Hey everyone I have a question on black bear. My grandmother lives in WVA and the bear population has been on the rise. She went to walk out to her garden and cherry trees today and found two black bear and some cubs.
We have talked to the game warden and was told that it has become a big problem and he is going on call after call. We where told that if we felt her life was in danger we have permission to shoot them. My questions are as follows. Where do you shoot on the body of the bear to put one down? My grandmother said the one was the biggest bear she has ever seen. What is the best cal to take one down with? I have .223/5.56, 7.62x39 and .308. I can also get my hands on 30/30 or 30/06 just not sure what one is over kill and what one is just right. I dont hunt and never have but I do come from family of hunters. I also know of people who will eat the meet if the bear is killed so that will not go to waste. The game warden said he would come out to pick it up and get rid of it but if people will eat it I will let them have it. They have now went into a neighbors house just down the road and they have been on my grandmothers porch over the weekend taking out some flowers and eating some apples from a small apple tree she has. This is not uncomon to have bear on her land just not common to have them come in this close and not be affaired of people and with cubs it makes it a bigger problem. Thanks everyone. |

Shoot the mom with a .22 in the ass and she'll stay away, unless she's really hungry in the fall/winter.
There are groups here in WV that will come and try to trap the bear for free, then they'll release it somewhere else in a national forest or somewhere along those lines. PM me where you grandma is, and i'll see if there is anyone around that area that does it |
