Was directed to this forum.  I was hoping i could get a consensus of best survival guides out there.  Is there a book that covers all the bases?  Wilderness survival, doomsday scenario, tactical defense & strategy, sustaining a family if SHTF etc??  thanks.

Not a single book...  Closest I can think of to cover the majority would be FM 21-76?

Here's the BEST guide out there.  Parts of it are on the website, but the complete manual is only $15 bucks.

U.S. Rescue & Special Operations Group Basic Skills Manual - 6 Ways In and 12 Ways Out

http://www.usrsog.org/manu.htm

The basic skills manual is a compilation of the training material that U.S. RSOG cadre use to train military personnel during the Survival and Evasion course. The Commander of U.S. RSOG has added brief text that applies to the material about cadre experiences in the field. There are over 185 pages of text and simple to follow illustrations. The manual is $15.00 postage paid and all proceeds from the sale of this manual go to the training budget of U.S. RSOG personnel.

Send a $15.00 check or money order to:

If you have an iPhone or iPod touch you can get the SAS Survival Guide for like 7 bucks. It doesn't cover any "tactical" elements of survival but when it comes to first aid and procuring sustenance, building shelter and keeping up a camp, it is pretty good.

The more you read, the more you'll pick up that individual books overlook.

One of my favorites (though a bit dated) is "How to Stay Alive in the Woods" by Bradford Angier. Lots of "forgotten" lore in there that may help out for the long term survival camp.
