I have a spare CB microphone off a Cobra CB.  It is a 4 pin.  Can I use it for a microphone on my ham radio?

I think it would depend on what your ham radio has for wires on the mic and if you know how its wired.

Youre going to need to know what wire does what and goes where.

I MAY be wrong though.

What type of mic is it? There are dynamic and electret condenser mics. Older Cobra CB's used a dynamic mic element. Some of the newer Cobras use the electret condenser type. How old is the mic? Can you post a pic? Ham radios can use CB mics, just have to know the specifics on the mic and rig to see if they are compatable.

I will try to get pics tonight.  What I want to do is wire the mike to a 1/4" phone plug to use in my NCX-5.  I took the mike apart last night and there are 3 wires coming out of it.  One is a shielded wire.  From the radio manual I need identify the ground, audio and PTT wires to solder into the plug.

The NCX-5 requires a high-impedance mic.

Most likely, yes. But unless it's decent, it'll sound like crap.

I use a "CB Microphone" on both of my FT-857s. At the base, it's a silver Astatic D-104. In the mobile, it's a D104-M6B.
