My grandmother and I were talking and she says that if you buy commercial cheese and put a wax coating on it that it will store in your pantry for years. I am not to sure about that, I know when we have made our own cheese and wax the finished product it will last quite a long time in a cool area.

Any thoughts on this?

Hmmmm- haven't tried it but I bet it might work! Speaking of cheese though I have decided that will be my winter project. I have warned husband we will be building a cheese press in the not too distant future.

I learned to make soft cheese last year.  You need un-pastuerized milk to make hard cheeses, so I gave up on the experiment.

To the OP, I saw it on TV that you could coat it in wax and keep it for years.

Makes sense to me that it would work.

TRG- I have made soft cheeses as well. I now have access to fresh cow and goat milk so we'll see!

OP - let us know if you try it!
