I have seen many Hogs taken with a AR. Ranges reported are less then 50 yards.
Well I can shoot my 1911 above aveage. But I have the 1906 DA 45 Colt that is like a part of my hand.
Any thoughts?

.45 Colt, 250+ gr hard cast SWC should work just fine on pigs at close range.

I've only killed 5 hogs so far but only one was within 50 yards, the last one I got was at 300 yards on a dead run.

The other 4 were standing pretty still but 3 of them were 100+ yards away.

The 50 yard shot was at night with a spot light, the others were in daylight.

All of them I shot with my 30-06 rifle with scope.

I now have a night scope I just need to find another place to go so I can use it, currently have no place to hunt.
It's on top of an AR so shot placement will be much more important but except for the running one the AR would have taken them with the same shot I made behind the ear on 4 of them.

The LC with hard-cast should be adequate with good shot placement.

Even the .45 acp is "doable"...but not ideal.

My Daughter has taken a number of hogs with a .45 acp from a dedicated hog stand set up about 15 yds. from a trail.  These were not large hogs (about 140 lbs each) and each was "neck shot", but it can be done.

This was her first when she was just 13 yrs. old:
