I guess I'm not really asking about a Bug-Out Kit but more like an emergency kit.  I ride my Harley a lot and take road trips frequently.  It's not always practical for me to pack and a carry a full B.O.B. so I was thinking something smaller and compact.  Something like an Altoids tin kit... or larger, I can adapt.  Pics would be great.  Thanks in advance.

I would go a little larger than an altoids kit but not much larger thatn a lunchbox.....do you have saddlebags on the bike?

I mentioned the Altoids because I've seen them before but I agree that is extremely small.  I do have saddle bags.  They're usually home to my riding gear extras and my on-the-road tools.

Think about basics:  Food, water, medical supplies, tools, shelter, self defense.  Decide what you think you can fit in your bag and then come up with a good compromise.  My BOB is really just a bigger version of my GHB which is just a bigger version of my EDC laptop bag which is just a bigger version of what I carry on my person every day.

I have a fanny pack version that I use when I go fishing in remote spots.  Designed to keep me alive if I get stranded overnight. It has (working from memory:)
-Space blanket
-Water purification tablets (less bluky than a filter)
-Sealable plastic bags to store/collect water.  Foldable canteen, as it were.
-1 Capri-Sun as emergency fluids
-Coupla sticks of jerky as emergency food
-Waterproof matches
-Whislte
-Compass

I have my CCW and cell phone, of course.

There was a thread on here a while back that had different mini survival kits in nalgene bottles.  I think there was a competition to see who could make the best kit???

Get you one of these (an actual folding canteen, which doubles as almost-signal-orange), and some of those pre-measured single-serving Gatorade powder pouches. All the water storage, all the electrolyte replacement, hardier, more multipurpose, lower weight.

Good thread, I really haven't given much thought to having a bag for my motorcycle, I have a RoadKing Classic so my saddle bags are pretty good sized. I have my tool kit, rain gear etc, but seeing this thread I think I just may start taking my UTG messenger bag, I've been stocking it up for a truck bag, but it would serve just as well for my scooter bag too.

You would be amazed at what you can fit in a Maxpedition Monkey Admin pouch with two smaller pouches on the sides.... You won't get shelter in there but all the basics of survival is quite do-able. The nice thing is that you can ride it high on your belt and conceal it under a shirt easily.

Well, assuming you have the bike safety gear already done, and ride defensively and all that....

Your most likely problem is a spill off the bike (by you or someone else you are with) so:

- a full water bottle or two

- whatever else is useful for treating someone in shock

- 2 or 3 emergency blankets

- red strobe (think bicycle tail light)

- flares or light sticks

- one of those "see me" orange vests with the reflective stripes on it

- latex gloves

Then fill out from there with a medkit, coms, shelter and fire making and whatever can make expedient repairs on a bike (duct tape, CO2 tire filler, patch kit?)
