I suspect antenna efficiency is the bigger issue with truck mobile.
Given how bad prop was I think you did pretty good. You were only ghost print for me -- I could see everyone else on the waterfall -- but olivia got through for the most part. |
|
Like most living things, you run them through a combine, it'll pretty much take care of it.
|
I don't recall 40m, I know on 80m mine is something like 5% efficient on the high side.
You put me to shame, I need to get a mobile HF antenna on my van. It's too much work to move the one from my CUCV. My pota mast is at my dad's house setup as a 43' vertical so no portable ops for me (no trees for wires here at the in-laws.) |

View Quote oh absolutely, a coil and a 9 foot radiator is not an efficient antenna by any measure I estimate about 5% on 40m which means maybe 2.5 watts radiated with the radio set at 50 watts |

Any of you guys remember those "drive on mounts"? A flat plate with a piece of steel tubing welded to the side. It used the weight of the car/ truck to hold a piece of mast in place and ought work very well for a temp setup if there is any room at all to string a piece of wire or two.

30 minute warning on 7120

Well, shit, I left the radio on 7114...

I might be kind of close to some of you guys for 40m

I finally got my antenna situation resolved and will be checking in
tonight. New antenna is a 16ft vertical with an Icom AH-4 "tuner" at the base which starts at the eave. I only have two radials which run along the eave and the mast it's all mounted on. Hopefully it will work better than the 40m OCF dipole I had up. |

15 minute warning out on 7120

5 minute warning.
Copied NMBMXER call with partial message. No one else has been heard. S9 noise here. Could be rough tonight. |
|
|
I'm traveling and just had time to send an early check in by logging in to my station over VNC. Don't know do you saw it but I've got to run out for a business dinner. 73.

Have a great night. Thanks for the check in.

Ok, this is a bust. I picked up NMBMXER, so I know I'm set up, but I can't pick up any other stations. I have heard a couple of tries.

Only hearing Rob and he copies me.
Got Mass 100%. |

CO station with 5 watts and a vertical. 100% into MA
what antenna are you using. |

Welp, computer glitch. Arrgh! Was starting to hear you all pretty well
and the band was getting better here. At least someone heard me! Back next week. |

Band was very in and out for me. Didn't copy anything until Mach's check-in, then caught snippets here and there.
I did respond when called back, but apparently I wasn't getting through at that point. |
|
|
I don't know the screen name, and i don't want to give a call. But, whoever it is, you are saving the day with your relays. You are S9+ and +27db. I can't really tell anyone else is even there. Thanks a lot.
ETA: i typed this during net, but didn't hit send. So, Stronger signals did come later. |

7 check ins tonight, NCS makes 8. 3 were relayed in by Mach, i had no clue they were out there. The other 4 stations had good signal strength into central illinois.
Sorry for the slow net. Not many of my pre typed macros were of use tonight. |

The net warnings are much easier for me to pickup than the tail end of the net. I'd like to see the regulars vote (or comment) on moving up to 1900est or saying at 2000est. |

Tonight I started at 1900E based on a post on the last page.
Either time is fine with me. |
|
|
Ok, I missed that post. I checked my subscribed threads and saw the last post was a 15min warning and thought I'd try and check in before I left for dinner. I'm in a different time zone and didn't notice what time it was on the east coast.

Still need a volunteer NC this week. If I am up to it I may try to check in.

Like most living things, you run them through a combine, it'll pretty much take care of it.
|
I can do it tonight, unless something changes it will be on 7120 at 1900 EST. I'll start warnings at least a half hour before net.

I'll be on tonight. I can be back up NC if need arises.
Next week, I'm not available at all. |
|
|
I'll be on tonight as well.
Found out why I had problems last week. Turns out about 30' of my 160m loop is laying on the ground. Should probably fix that before the weather goes completely in the toilet, but I have the 40m dipole for now. |
|
|
@greendragon, my computer is all FUBAR and I can't get my audio to work. I sent out a warning and then my soundcard crashed, you might have to be NCS.

I didnt see it at all. Saw someone tune. Could be bad band for me

I'm not hearing anything here. Not a surprise for GreenDragon as we're likely too close, but Nmbmxr usually blasts me here.

Just sent TEST

I see the net call going out on the Northern Utah websdr. I saw a station tuning as well.
