Definitely a small net tonight!
One check in. Conditions were worse than last week but still 100%. Noise floor was low here, but the path was very variable. |

Sorry I missed it. I'm at my Son's house watching the SpaceX launch with my 5 year old grandson. He is turning into quite the space geek.
Damn, first net I've missed in a while, I think. Be back next week. |

We're at the Outer Banks this week and I didn't bring the radio. I was going to run my shack remotely but ended up on the beach w/ the kids instead
I need to figure out how to get audio remotely, I regularly use Google Remote Desktop and VNC viewer and neither get audio over the internet. I don't like using the radio for digital modes remote and not being to listen for doubling. |

I sometime use it to play with digital modes on the tablet while upstairs watching TV with the wife (shack is in the basement). Sorry I missed the net last night. Been a week from hell and I simply forgot. |

Excellent question and I forgot that was an issue until you asked. I cheat and use the SDR and a separate antenna for RX audio in digi modes.
So I guess I don't have the answer to your audio problem unless you're running a separate SDR there as well. |

I'll be present to NC tonight, 40M 7120 KHz.
Sunspot number is 50, prop may be pretty good. |

I'm having an issue here where my com port disappears every time I TX, so I will just be monitoring tonight.
Read the warnings and Mach's test 100%. |

I was losing internet when transmitting above a certain power and i solved it by putting chokes on both ends of the Cat6 to the shack. Also changed from cat5 to cat 6 because cat 6 is shielded.

Nobody is coming to save us. . |
Propagation was MUCH improved tonight. Sunspots for the win!
Four stations tonight. Everyone was 100% on my end, most near the upper limit of the SNR on Olivia. Thanks for making the net tonight and hopefully next week is that much better. --- As far as the internet, I'll probably clamp some ferrites on. I have cat 6 halfway, but it the wrong half. All my tools are cat 5 and the cable is cat 5e, so I guess I need to get set for 6 and get under the crawlspace. |

I have a pile of chokes on the USB cable to the IC7300, some on the power cable, I think that's it.

I just have the factory usb cable with the built in ferrite bead on my 7300 and my wire antenna nearly passes over my shack. Other cables have failed to work in field but the factory one works fine.

I should be around to NC tonight. Sunspot number is 57 so prop should be working pretty well.

I should be good to go for tonight. Looped the data cable through a toroid I had laying around a couple times and that seems to have solved my issues here.
I guess the clamp on filter I had previously depended on was borderline doing the job, as the problem just kinda popped up with no changes in the setup. |
|
|
I think I will try to get this set up for next week. I have an Icom 7100 and a mac so it'll probably be an adventure, but I am up for it.

View Quote I've found a lot of the split toroids are meant for VHF rather than HF. I ended up getting a mix 31 kit from Palomar Engineers that helped. You really want mix 31 or mix 77 to cut down on HF interference. Palomar's mix 31 ferrites. |

I'm hearing Weaponeer and GreenDragon, had a brief exchange with a MO station earlier (sorry, don't know your screen name) but nothing from NC. Might need a relay this week.
edit- disregard the above. Looking at it again it seems you doubled with GD and he won that fight. Caught the first few characters of your transmission. |

I've been copying everyone really well tonight. At times seek2 would fade out some. Hoping to do my general test this weekend and I'll be able to join next week and see how my setup works on the TX side.

Great propagation tonight, solid copy on six stations, though a couple had some
odd propagation effects with the signal smearing a little, probably the gray line doing its thing. Looking forward to next week, hopefully even better! |

I heard what sounded exactly like a Winlink station over us once or twice but it was short, I wonder if that was the same thing.

I'll just be a quick check-in/out. Wife and I (and my son's family) have some sort of nasty cold/flu bug that kicking our butts. Wife and I tested negative for covid on Saturday so (thankfully) it's not that. But man, it's the worst cold we've had in many years.
I'll be going back to bed. Hope next week is better. |

Good copy on weaponeer. NC is broken, but mostly readable.
And I'm not being received. |

Conditions seemed a bit better than last week. Heard everyone 100% with no real issues.
Copied five stations tonight and got updated on construction material supplies east of the Mississippi. I was running my 500 Hz filter on the 7300 so didn't see any nearby CW, sucks if it washed the net out. |
