Once i take eggs out of the refrigerator, how long are they good for?

Until they go bad.

I am not sure what the definitive answer is, lots of debate over this subject.

Generally, I believe once they are refrigerated, you have to keep them like that or they go bad fairly quickly.
I assume these are store bought eggs, so you already don't know how old they are.

One way to check is to put them in water,
if they float, they are bad.

Refridgeration is jut a cultural thing. When I lived in Europe, we never refridgerated eggs. They stayed good for weeks. Im no eggspert, but I would venture to guess that eggs would be good for at least a month or two since they are hermetically sealed. Just my .02

EGGS right out of the chicken, unwashed will keep a few weeks at room temp.

eggs washed/processed; need to be refrigerated, something about removing a natural membrane on the shell by washing, and any fresh item, once refer'd best to keep them that way
including apples, potatoes, onions etc..

my understanding is eggs right from the hen, oiled and kept at moderate temps will keep in the pantry for months...but,,again not promising it's fact...eggs from the grocery
are going to be washed and MAY be 2 to 3 weeks old when you get to them in the grocery store.

correct... so long as they are not washed right away.

Eggs are laid with what is called a "bloom" which naturally protects it. This is the coating on the egg shell that seals its pores. Also known as the cuticle, it helps to prevent bacteria from getting inside the shell and reduces moisture loss from the egg keeping it fresher longer.

Eggs last much longer when refrigerated. Especially so if you do not wash them until ready to eat...

To make eggs last for months (and much longer), coat them with vaseline to seal the pores. This prevents air from penetrating the shell which causes the egg to go bad.

Do not buy eggs which have been kept in a fridge. Eggs willl last a long time outside a fridge if they have never been in one but once chilled they will go off very quickly if they are taken out of the cool environment.

I used this method when sailing without any type of refrigeration with good results. As mentioned above, if it floats in fresh water, its bad. Dont crack it

I've regularly eaten eggs a few months past the "sell" date on the carton.  I keep them in the refer and never really thought about it.  I'll eat year old ketchup, and 3 year old mustard too as long as its been keep refrigerated.  Don't ask me about how long I keep milk.

If you have the space, why not just keep them cold?

Regardless of how long they will last at room temp, pretty much all of us have a fridge....

Why not use it?

also, There was a very exhaustive thread on this recently, and someone discovered two articles from mother earth news and perhaps frugal's forum, and it looks like eggs can last months wtih refridgeration.  and a significant time without.

If your power goes out a chilled egg will go bad quicker than one that has never been in the fridge.
