I really like that they offer Hardware upgrades to their products.
I can buy a basic radio and add the pieces that I want and not have to pay for features I don't want. To make it even better they are improving the design and occasionally offer new boards to replace an older design They just came out with new synthesizer boards, that lowers the phase noise and expand the operating range. So instead of replacing the rig you swap out a board and you have the latest and greatest. Yep the Kool Aide is Yummy |

That they keep improving it I see no reason to change, and that in turn gets me to buy more of there gear because it just works so well together. |

Elecraft is the best of the best. I will admit out of all the brands I've owned I like them the best. They really do seem to go the extra mile to make you happy. Are they Perfect... No but they do try to make it right when there is an issue. I've even had the Owners call me to fix an issue before. #2 to them is TenTec, they also are very nice folks |

With all of the cool aid love in this thread. What was the end result of the customer support issues that a few members here had with Elecraft? I still would like to get a KX3 this year. I buy a lot from them so issues will happen All the issues were handled to my satisfaction. |

When they found out I was operating in Afghanistan, they jumped me to the head of the waiting list for the KXPA100 amp for my KX3. http://www.ar15.com/media/viewFile.html?i=66408

... What was the end result of the customer support issues that a few members here had with Elecraft? ... I had the intermittent loss of receive sensitivity. They couldn't make it fail on the bench so they gave it to one of their die-hard CW contesters and it failed for him. They couldn't duplicate it on the bench so they replaced every board with a relay on it and reset the warranty. They said if it failed again, I'd get a new radio. So far, so good, and it's getting a lot of use, though not as much since I finished the K1. I'm getting hooked on QRP. |

I like Elecraft and the KX-3 is damn tempting even though I don't have a budget for it. My main gripe with Elecraft is all the nitpicky options that you have to buy like general receive coverage. It just starts all adding up quick. To me, unless you need an I-Q out for a fish finder or are intent on building one as a kit, I'd just as soon go with the Kenwood TS-590SG, but only because I own a 590S .

I wanted a top of the line radio. I am a CW operator, so I wanted all the filters as well as the second receiver. On the surface, the K3 is very reasonably price. And it is certainly one of the best radios ever sold in the ham market. If they would have just had a pricing structure where you bought a rig, for a given price, I would have bought it. But instead you start with the basic radio and start adding options. This means that you see just how much each option adds to the overall price. Now, I know that the price would be the same in the end, but when I see it gradually adding up, I didn't buy it. It's sort of like taxation. If you actually knew how much you pay in taxes.......ALL taxes. Each and every tax. You would shit. |

I bought the base very capable radio and added the options I wanted when I wanted them |

Mine is maximized for CW operation. It has been used in SSB mode once -- when I set it up, just to make sure it was operational. The contact lasted less that five minutes. |

Did your synthesizer boards arrive yet? I'm curious if you can tell any difference. Mine has not arrived, but I only ordered it three days ago.
Anyway, with the new synthesizer board, the K3 jumped up quite a bit in the Sherwood Engineering tests. Truthfully, I doubt if the average person can hear a difference, but still, it's a nice improvement. |

Neat! Take it over to qrz.com and post it. There's some Elecraft haters there. |

Thew seem to be a little better but what I wanted most was the ability to listen below 500kHz That works quite well |

My KSYN3A Board finally shipped, today. It's been just over a month since I ordered it and the audio output modification. They are really backed up. I actually get to do some soldering on the K3, when installing the audio output mod. One thing I did was to label the interconnect cables while I was in there. It makes it easier when you work on it again |
