Alcon,

I've been studying to upgrade to Extra for awhile now, and finally to the point where I'm ready to set a date.  My question is, should I call and ensure that they have enough Extra class operators there to administer?  Or is that a moot point, because they wouldn't have enough for General either?

Thanks in advance,
Zach

Thanks for the fast reply, I kind of figured, but wasn't 100% sure.

It doesn't hurt to call ahead to let them know that you're testing for an upgrade to Extra. Not only to make sure there are enough Extra class VEs to administer the test but more importantly to clue them in to bring the actual tests. Have heard of VE teams showing up with only Tech tests because they didn't think that someone would walk in off the street to upgrade.

Another reason to call ahead is that it gives the team a rough idea of how many are going to test. A large session will mean calling in a few more VEs to help out.

FWIW we keep all our material in a couple of file folder boxes. We're up and running 5 minutes from walking in the door. We expect walk ins. Since there isn't near enough VE sessions in our area we get people who knock off work early and drive an hour to test with us.
