I've been looking for ideas on putting together some very portable first aid kits. The items will have to be small because I'm going to vacume pack them and I want them to fit in the cargo pocket of BDU pants.  Aside from a field dressing and a staple kit I saw at REI I'm drawing a complete blank.  Any ideas from the hive mind?

A field dressing and a staple kit is not a great start.

Go here and check out the kinds of things they provide in their smaller kits.  Look around on the web for a place that has one of those on a closeout sale, or make your own, but kind of try to follow their general approach because I'm guessing you're relatively new to this subject.  The good news is that you're asking, which is better than most folks.

cool thanks for the start. I was a combat lifesaver for six years in the army. My problem now is I don't think PMI is going to send me a blow out kit with I.V.'s so I'm just trying to make do.

Dude, you suckered me in--you know more about this stuff than I do.  Why would you say a "field dressing and a staple kit," when you know better than that?

Whatever, the link does provide detailed info on the contents of the various kits, and I'm sure you can fill in the blanks.

I'm missing something here...

nope, I'm just not use to getting stuff myself, kinda miss that supply section. Sorry for the mix up.

Tac Pack

Designed as a pocket trauma kit by a doctor with the US Secret Service...

Enough said.

Another Vote here for the Adventure Medical Kits available at REI, Campmore, etc.

Great kits that are very well thought out and pack small.

I personally like the Ultralight .9 from them, supplement with two Israeli Bandages (not in the adventure medical pouch) and some over the counter meds in the pouch.

You said ideas not where to find.
If you need ideas then you failed the .Mil training.
Now looking for where to find the needed items is another thing.

Sorry, but please state what you need/want better the next time you ask for help.
