The wife would like a good food processor for Christmas and I have no idea what to look for or what brand to get.
She uses the old crappy one she has a lot so so I want a good quality unit. |

We got a Wolfgang Puck from HSN. It is a 900 watt bad boy (toss in peanuts and make your own peanut butter).
Here's a link to it. R. |

I am not a fan of wolfgang anymore.... or many of the oldschool foodnetwork crew. They have gone mainstage and as such what they "sell" is what they were told to put their name on. Yes the built in drawer thing for attachment is nice, but look at how little room that leaves for the motor. Wattage is just an expression of current draw time the input voltage. It has NOTHING to do with the end result. so be it the wolfgang unit is direct drive. For a food processor there are just a few things that they need.
A) The blade sits ontop of the motor. No fancy ofset or low profile gizmo that Racheal Ray used for about 20 days. B) A simple on off button. If the on locks, then a pulse is needed. You do not need 16 settings. C) WEIGHT. The thing will rock and roll on occasion. Weight will keep it where it belongs. D) wide feed tubes... of you are force to prep more than you may want The rest of the attachemnt and gizmos are optional. I have owned the Cuisinart which I liked but when it broke I got teh kitchenaid. The cuisinart is nice since it has a 2nd lid that drops the add in right ontop of the blade for sauces/ dressing. BUT the feed tube was small, and they did not have a large at the time. The kitchenaid is a tank. It weights 31 pounds 3 work bowls, but only 2 work with chopping blades, and each bowl takes a differnt sized balde (but atleast they give you all of it witht he basic kit). The wolfgang has some nice reviews, but just lokking at the attchement drawer it makes me wonder about the motor in there. The kitchenaid is just as tall but the motor goes all the way to the bottom. Google shows the WGP at 20 lbs. which means smaller motor, but look at the 4 cylinder cars doing sub 7 and 8 second 1/4 miles. So size is not always important. Mine that I have been sporting the last 3 years |

Also if shopping around for the best price. Dont forget bedbathandbeyonds 20% coupon, you will get them occasionally in the mail if you sign up on their site, They never expire (they do take the ones with expired dates), and they can only be used on 1 items, but they usually take upto 5 at a time for 5 differnt items. Several coworkers have signed up to give me there coupons when I first started gathering stuff. Now that I have a nice kitchen and other areas, several coworkers have started doing the same thing.
Its the same price between amazon and BB&B, but the 20% will make it $40 cheaper in store. The coupon can also be used for online sales if you go into the store and give them the coupon and ask them to order it. Sometimes you get a nice service rep (or I have found flirting with them for a minute) and they will ship to store for free. Yeah Im a dog, I know. *** EDIT HERE IT IS on BB&B |
