Any reason NOT to store gasoline (or diesel) in the standard blue 55-gallon water barrels?
I ask because I got a great deal on six 55-gallon bbls (free!), but was only planning on filling four with water for preps. Thought maybe I could use the remaining two for fuel stores. Would clean normally and then allow to completely dry so there was no water left inside. Would also add stabilizer and mark bbls accordingly, so as to clearly distinguish from water stores. Anything I'm missing? rich |

Have you read the fuel oriacle?
fuel... the thing that scared me away from poly drums was static... |

This was discussed not too long ago with some good information - http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_10_17/654369_Storing_Gas_in_poly_drums.html
I think the general summary was if you're going to be rotating it somewhat often it would be okay but, if you're looking for long term storage then poly is too porous and will allow evaporation. Personally, I store some in poly drums. |
