After hurricane Ike passed, it was time to put the genny away today. 1. Drained the gas out of the fuel tank back into a 7 gallon can. 2. Dropped the bowl from the bottom of the carbeurater, drained fuel from bowl and carb. 3. Pulled spark plug, put two teaspoons of motor oil into spark plug hole, replaced spark plug. 4. Slowly turned engine over (mine has pull cord) to work the oil in. 5. Pulled cord slowly until compression built up, meaning valves were closed, piston cylinder sealed off with oil on top of piston. 6. Placed genny in storage shed and covered with generator cover to protect from dust. 7. Put stabil into spare fuel cans to protect gas from breakdown. Did I miss anything important? |
You should test it with a load at the same time, to make sure that the gen head works. also, some people say it is bad to run it without a load for a long time, not sure how long that is or how long you run it for. hook up an electric heater or big light or something to burn some energy, maybe 1/4 of the generator capacity? |
| This is all good information. I am trying to get a teamroom built for my company as we have lots of employees in Baton Rouge and Houston. I'm trying to pull in good information from various sources about food stores, water stores, flashlights, batterys, etc. The most important part, I feel is the "Lessons Learned" section where people who have lived through Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike. Thanks guys. |
