First, I have a L14-30 connector feeding my main electrical panel with a generator interlock for my 5kw generator.  I was thinking that for night time use my Harbor Freight 800 watt generator will provide more than enough power to run my pellet stove and my CPAP machine and the burglar alarm.  My question is, can I feed the the panel 110 volts from the HF generator thru one side of the L14-30.  Since the L14-30 is 2 hots, 1 ground, and a neutral, can I feed half my panel by making an 5-15 to L14-30 adapter.  I can feed it 1 hot, a ground and a neutral.    I know that it will only feed half the panel or every other breaker but since I only need 2 circuits at night that would be fine.  Will this work?

It should provided that both of the circuits you want to use are on the same phase of 110 V and you make your adapter to feed that phase. Is just running an extension cord to the stove and CPAP an option?  Might be simpler.

they sell battery back ups for all three of those. which means you can make your own battery back up for each of them cheaper than you can buy them. then just charge them during the day with you have the 5kw genny running. i wouldnt run a genny just to power them when a battery would do the job, do it silently, and do it without burning your fuel.

I was going to use extension cords but there is no easy way to get it into the house.  I would need to leave either a window or door ajar, which prevent me from turning on the burglar alarm. The generator cable can run under the garage door and connect in the garage.  Yes, both circuits are on the same phase.

We've only had 2 real power outages here in 10 years so the cost of batteries would be higher than the $80 I paid for the the generator. Plus my wife will kill me if I buy any more "crazy end of the world crap".
