What is a good (decent) packable rain packable jacket?  I am looking for something that will stay in my bag, so I don't need a $100 rain jacket, just a decent one that packs down small and is there when I need it.

Before someone says get a cheap poncho, I already have a few, but I rather have a nice little rain jacket.  Prefer a Brown, Earth color or Greenish.

Last November during deer season here in Vermont it rained nearly 7 days straight. So, after two days of this I went to Dick's and picked up a Field and Stream Jacket and Pants for about 110.00, but they swere avialable as individual pieces. I would guess that they would be avialable for spring turkey season.

(Yes mine were camo, but they offered similarly priced rain gear in earth tone too)

I can't vouche for that particular jacket, but Marmot gear is great stuff  I have a Marmot Goretex jacket thats gotta be 8 years old, and is as dry and good as the day I got it.

I have that jacket and its great, packs down very small, small enough to fit into a BDU Cargo pocket and still have room for other stuff.

Sheads rain real well, but you can not zip a fleece inside, unless there is a Marmot specific one.

I like that one, and I might pick one up for my main rain jacket.  However, for my pack jacket I was thinking more around $30 range since it will be sitting in my bag most of the time.  Anyone run across anything decent in that price range?

I've only ever had two rain coats. One is a ECWS coat, which works very well, but doesn't pack down for shit. The other is a Coleman (as in camping gear) coat I picked up at a local Meijers (like a Walmart/superstore) for $40 when I got laid off a few years ago and had to read electric meters to get by. That coat lasted me 6 months of late summer, fall, winter and spring rain and is still in perfect condition. I would be shocked if that jacket hadn't jumped over 1,000 chain link fences with me and jogged several hundred miles, around rose bushes, etc. The routes averaged 8 walking miles and 3-600 meters per day, so you figure 200-400 houses as some are A/C meters... That's a lot of swinging arms, poked with branches, caught on fences etc. This is a very duable coat. There's no model name, it's just a basic waterproofed nylon coat with a mesh liner, velcro'd elastic sleeves and a stored hood with drawstrings. Rolled up it will easily fit in a canteen pouch.

A good raincoat may be closer to home than you think...

I bought that jacket (and the pants ) for lightweight backpacking and really like them because they pack so small and are lightweight.  The set is lighter than my old  (gortex style) rain jacket by itself.

If you find something in the $30. range that packs up small/light please post it... i looked for a while for something cheaper that fit the bill and had no luck. everything i found was bulkier/heavy.
