I'm looking for some definitions of "Line 1" and "Line 2" gear and also some examples/pics. I'd also be interested in a brief history of where terminology like that and BOB and is used other than on ARFCOM SF. Thanks for helping a newb.

I think its the new military terminology. When I was in the Army we had "combat load" (LCE) and "existence load" (rucksack). 1st line gear is supposed to be bare minium survival gear (side arm, E&E kit, canteen, knife) 2nd line gear is your load bearing vest w/ mag pouches etc. 3rd line is still your rucksack. I have my 1st and 2nd line gear integrated into one system (load bearing vest) |
