hi guys:
It is unfortunate but I live in NY state. Gun laws and taxes suck, but family, friends, church, careers and proximity to the Adirondack Park make life bearable. My daughter is 14, a freshman in highschool, is doing fantastic academically and socially (runs with some really nice kids) and I'm simply not movng and messing that up. I've been looking at the preps and have decided I need a few magazines. I have several preban AR mags, I'd like to find more. Nothing crazy, just a dozen maybe two. And while I really like my 1911's and XD, I am seriously considering adding a Glock 22/23 to the stable. I'd prefer a .40 XD but prebans do not exist for the XD. There are a few preban G22/23 mags available. Call me cheap but I am NOT paying $100 for a preban glock magazine. I refuse to be scalped. I understand the concept of a premium but I hate being raped. Does anyone know of a reliable source of appropriately priced preban AR15, Ruger 10/22 and Glock 22/23 mags? Thanks Guys Fro |

If the magazine was made prior to Sept '94, its legal in NYS. If it was made post-94, its illegal. We can own/buy/sell/trade any high cap so long as its preban. If its post ban, it is illegal.
How to tell a preban Butler Creek 10/22 25 rounder? I dunno honestly. |
| Watch the bords here and post a wtb add. I see prebans here all the time. Also check northeastshooters.com Its newengland based so there are lots of prebans posted. U shaped glock mags are 100 percent preban and lots of folks in free states will happily sell them for the price of a new mag. |

| My experience has been that if you offer to buy someone's older, worn pre-ban mags by giving them enough money to replace them with current-manufacture brand new mags you will usually have all the mags you need. (Assuming, of course, the person you are buying them from lives in a 'free' state where magazine capacity is meaningless to him.) |

I'll look through my stuff when i get time and send you an IM if you aren't already squared away......... I know i have some 10/22 mags someplace and some preban actual ruger 30rnd mini14 mags. I think the only preban ar mags i have left have "sentimental" value but i'll look. |

EDIT TO ADD It was bugging the crap out of me so I went and found out the answer myself. Only took a couple of hours. I checked my mags and I have 3 different logo styles.

wow. I was hoping to find a reasonable source to buy mags. I've had a few PM from other members here who have offered to swap (preban used for new) and an offer to simply mail me a 10/22 mag! You guys are awesome! This isn't what I expected. Thanks guys.

BT I said the same thing when the ban sunset sold over 200 mags to "brothers" behind enemy lines several preban ar's at reasonable prices. Then i watched the ar's and shitloads of the mags be sold on arfcom less than 2 months later by those "brothers" for double the price. I will never sell / trade anything preban cheap to anyone i don't think/know is a good person for a cheap price again. I'm waiting till close to the election to sell my last preban colt ........... people can call me a douche all they want but it's not being sold cheap or it'll stay in Texas. |

ETA: Well crap, the emails bounced back for some reason. The email I sent was for 10 GI Sanchez M16 mags NIW for $135.00. They are marked 5/89 for date of manufacture. I hate to ask that much, but that would cover shipping to you plus buying replacements shipped to me.

More that fair if you ask me. "Too Much" is people taking a beat to death 40 year old magazine and slapping a $29 sticker on it like many out-of-state douchebags do when they come to NY gunshows. in 2004, I set up a deal with a NYer to send him all of my Pre-ban AR mags and he bought NIW AR mags right from BCM and had them shipped to me directly. Even trade. As far as Glock pre-bans, I feel your pain. I would never pay $100 during the AWB and wouldn't now. I had a pre-ban gen one mag that I sold to a NYer at some point without raping him. I think if you are going to find someone to give you a fair deal, it will most likely be here. Good luck! |

I came into possession of some Glock17 17 round mags that were preban. I sent them to an arfcommer that swore to take them for personal use, and not resale. I think he paid 50 for 3 magazines. I don't mind helping out, but I did not want to be taken advantage of, and contribute to someone just using them to make a buck.
Anytime I run across preban mags I always try to send them where needed. Good Luck with your search, and it seems that you've already gotten the arfcom SF hookup. :)

I later then SOLD my Pre-94 AdventureLine 30rd mags to NY State arfcommers for about $10 a pop. I paid between $20 to $45 for them DURING the Ban... I only wanted enough to cover my cost to replace them. I suspect the arfcommer refurbished them & refinished them... |

IF I can trade my buddy out of them: Where on the Karma scale would I fall if I tried to sell some of them on the EE for whatever the going rate is these days? Since I already hooked one guy up (my wife shipped your mags this morning Fro') and I could reallly use the money for other preps, I'd like to try to get what they'd bring without being stupid or anything. What sayeth the hive? |

Not much "room" on mags you either sell them cheap buddy deal or your high priced....... i mean it's not worth the trouble of shipping them if your making a $1. a mag unless your selling a few hundred or doing it to be a good guy. |

I sold the couple hundred I had in the ee over the years. It seems like half of them were bought by a couple guys in Kentucky.
I had 3 preban 10/22 mags. Two eventually quit functioning and ended up in the garbage. I think I still have one. Is there some way to tell pre and post ban butler creek mags apart? |

Thanks. I couldn't chisel too many loose, but I just posted them on the EE and I hope I did it right. I'll let you know if any "blackgun" from CT tries to buy them.LOL If he posted "I'll take them" I'd have to still sell them to him though wouldn't I? Backing out would be considered welching.

I think I still have several pre-ban AR mags and I'm certain three of my 10/22 mags are the 25 round pre-ban versions. Can't help right now as I'm squatting if Afghanistan, but if dredge this threat back up in July, I may be able to help out. I wouldn't be concerned about profit, just replacement costs as most have mentioned...
