Thinking about picking up 2 Champions...or maybe one Honda inverter genny...Q is this...If they are running at max load, lets say 2000 watts just for simplicity, are they as loud as a regular NON-inverter 2000 watt genny?...In other words, am I going to only see substantial noise reduction at low power consumption levels?

Incorrect. The inverter models are many, many times quieter at all RPMs. From hard to hear at idle to barely noticeable when ramped up.

<––––EFI3500ESB Owner, the Yamaha is efficient, quiet and reliable, as are the Honda's. Champion has gotten good reviews, but I have not seen one yet.

I own two honda eu3000i handis and both of them running at same time in parallel is amazinly quiet........you can sit on them and have a normal conversation with a friend......so no the inverters are no where near as loud as a standard genny.......buy the two champions, great little gennys and your getting two for the price of one honda....my local sams has them for like $450, and they can be ran in parallel and are also stackable.

i'm in the same boat. 2 champions or 1 honda. as much as i'd like the extra power of 2 running parallel i just don't trust them to last. my friend has an eu3000 that has run 4 hours a day 5 days a week for 6 years with nothing but oil changes and a new spark plug.

I have two champions, during the ice storm last Oct. they ran about 15 hours a day for 9 days no problem. Also the sound of the two running together was far quieter than the sounds of my neighbors generators.  I'm sure the honda is higher quality but the champions give you a lot of bang for the buck.

The Honda inverter generators are awesome generators.

I have a lot of good experience with the Honda's, but I just bought 2 Champions with a link anyway.

They are still in the box and I haven't had time to compare them to the Honda's yet......soon

ETA- I got two 2000 watt champion inverter generators for the price I paid for my one Honda 1000

Depends on the non-inverter generator you're comparing them with.

Running at maximum load, the engine in an inverter model runs at least as fast as a non-inverter model of similar size. (In fact, the 80 cc engine used in the Champion is identical to the one used in their 1200 rated watt non-inverter models, but operates at higher than 3600 RPM in the inverter model to produce the extra 400 rated watts of power).

So, with both engines running at full speed, sound insulation and muffler design are the only other factors that make one model quieter than the other - and there are some non-inverter models with decent mufflers and sound insulation.

So...wait...are you saying that "they" could easily make a non-inverter genny as quiet as an inverter one...just a matter of muffler design and noise insulation, plus adjusted RPM's?

I can hear the Honda 2000eu a good distance when it's running the microwave.

Sure you can.......but nothing compared to a standard genny........ask your neighbor which he prefers

Yes. At full load, just as quiet.

You might recall that Honda was making quiet generators long before inverter designs existed - example here.

Two Champion Inverter Gennys FTW. Quiet as anyone. Best price/Watt of all the inverters. Sam's Club usually has the cheapest price, although they have gone up a few percent since this time last year. No shipping as you go pick them up. Plus, you can get them TODAY. Go... do it!!!

This is my model genny.......this is not my video but gives you a good idea of what a quiet genny sounds like.

Wow   I get that they are great but $2500 for the Honda.. I have been trying to figure out what I want to do for a genny for a while now.  If I was just trying to use something just for home use wouldn't a Generac hooked into my NG line be a better option for that kind of money? I have been eyeing the Champions at Sam's for a while now. $489 plus tax in my area.  I saw a couple of reconditioned ones on ebay for $385 shipped no tax. Was thinking of going that route. I have had good luck with the couple of  reconditioned things  I have bought in the past.

Just my opinion, but I would buy the Honda in the size needed and then let the funds recover to purchase a second unit as a backup.
I don't know if they still have it, but Honda had a financing plan where if you paid it off in a year there was no interest charged. I did this to buy our EU-5000, which is now the centerpiece of my emergency power plan.

While I like the idea of a 15-20k stationary unit, I would shy away from tying into the NG line...that puts you completely dependent on the NG supply being uninterrupted. I, personally, am not comfortable with that arrangement. I can see a 1k gallon propane tank and hooking to that, or the portable units with a tri-fuel conversion kit installed...(this is what I have done)
Again, just another opinion.

I got this today. I was gonna try the Champions first, but that will have to wait until late summer when the budget recoups.
I am very happy that we can run our genny all night at Talladega this weekend and no one will bitch.
Got it for $750 at Sportsmans Warehouse plus tax. I know the manager FTW.

I have a Honda eu2000 bought used like new for 700 bucks.
Since 2008 it's ran maybe 4 hours since I've owned it.
A champion would be fine for me and probably most on here with eu2000's.
That being said I wanted the Honda and would not trade it for 2 champions.
If the cash sitting around in gensets that don't get used much doesn't hurt you get the Honda or Yamaha.
