i think they were back to the gun grab bag b/c when the milicos rolled in they collected all the ar's and what not they were using during the big battle. +1 on the cheering for stanley. having never shot somebody in the head from close range, i appreciate that they depicted that somebody would likely lose their lunch, at least the first time. here's hoping that sci-fi picks the show up and gives them a good budget. |
My boys were asking about that. I told them "cause when you shoot someone you throw-up" matter-of-factly. Explained to them that it's pretty natural for someone who's never killed anyone (as-in ENDED-THEIR-LIFE for good) to throw-up and be in some form of shock from the experience. I remember when I found my father-in-law's mostly-headless body (self-inflicted .30-06 to the chin). After calling the authorities, I sat down and went into shock. Went all numb and tingly. My hands curled into fists and were hard to use for a while. It's easy to sit and watch death on TV and remain unmoved, but when you experience it that's a whole other matter. Hopefully my kids will understand that REAL LIFE is different than what they see on the TV and their video games. And kudos to Jericho for getting that part right. While I don't "buy" everything that Hollyweird throws at me in Jericho, I do think that it's still a great vehicle to suck people in and get them thinking about preparedness. Not to mention giving us people already into that some cool gun porn and feelings of vindication once in a while for being the "survivalist nuts" that some seem to think we are. |

sorry to hear about your FIL. i remember when i was 16, i watched somebody die, no where near as traumatic as what you went through finding your FIL, but i still walked around the rest of the day thinking that's f'd up and wondering if it had really happened. jericho does an excellent job of making you ask "what if" and then plan from there. my kids are too young (5 and 2.5) to watch. |

DB Sweeney did a great job of making a character that was entirely loathsome. A lot of people would have killed him long before the scene in the show where he finally bit the big one! I don't think it was necessarily 100% vigilantism either. Had they allowed Goetz to survive, he definitely would have killed more people some day. In the show, a system for keeping him effectively imprisoned doesn't seem to exist. |
The head Ravenwood Administrator ASA contractor though being strung-up sort of made feel very uncomfortable though as the scene of the contractors burned and hung over the bridge in Fallujah, Iraq, is still pretty fresh. I know that one of those men was a SEAL and the other an Army Ranger and they weren't trying to kill anyone just provide security for KBR kitchen equipment.  Jake was trying to do the right thing to avoid more scrutiny from the ASA military while they tried to arrange for the nuclear weapon to move to Texas. Why the contractor and his men weren't arrested is beyond me? I though J&R came down on hard on people who embezzle? They do seem to have federal prisons set-up and active. The last thing they need is a lockdown and curfew of Jericho and they're going to end-up with some tough times ahead. If Jericho because an "insurgent town" (not sure if I enjoy the use of that term here as they share very little in common with Iraqi militia and terrorists) a larger ASA military presence will likely be sent. |
| I just watched the preview of next week. It was not good for Beck. He just put himself at odds with the entire town. It should be very interesting if he continues down the path of tyranny or gets his head together. |

Obviously I was wrong, and I'm glad! But like Hawkins (who is seriously the baddest mother F'er around) said, it just changed everything. It's going to get very interesting! |

No doubt... it's hard not to like Hawkins. The rest of the characters have had their strong and smart, as well as their weak and stupid moments. But Hawkins has been the stud from day one. I am becoming a BIG fan of that actor (although I still don't know his real name or background). Maybe that's the hollyweird leftist conspiracy in this show -- the character who has it all together is a black man from the big city. Us white country-folk rednecks are being painted as bumble-headed screw-ups!

I agree. I LOVE revenge movies like The Punisher and such where true justice is acheived. That's my favorite kind of movie. So when Stanley popped that guy in the head I practically jumped out of my chair and cheered. But my 11 and 12 year old boys were watching and one has to be careful what one does and says around impressionable young minds. My eleven year old is especially impressionable and I swear that he sometimes thinks that he IS a comic book hero/character. So I have to think carefully about what I do and say around him because I don't think he's mature enough to understand the difference between real life and fantasy yet. |

In reality, most people would have pulled the trigger also. Back in the day, they would have had him give a speech about doig the right thing and not stooping to his level before turning him in to the proper authorities. |

excellent episode. couple of comments... (1) my reaction to Goetz hung up over the road to New Bern was that the writers had seen Eastwood paint "Hell" on the Lago sign in High Plains Drifter. (2) at the finale, Stanley was too close to Goetz. methinks that with his apparent level of training, Goetz could have easily disarmed Stanley and perhaps taken him hostage to prevent being killed by the surrounding party. (3) Goetz shot --> "Toe pick!" (my wife said it) ar-jedi |

Just watched it yesterday (I DVR'd it) And ZOMG!!!!!! I LOVE that Stanley said goodbye to Bonnie in sign language. I cried. I cried again when he told Mimi that Bonnie would have been happy (and ready to do it again) knowing she'd saved Mimi. I did NOT cry when Stanley shot Goetz. &^*^%^^ deserved to die! |

SF&F TV Shows On The Bubble The Hollywood Reporter has handicapped the SF&F TV shows currently "on the bubble" for renewal or cancellation. For starters, the trade paper was confident that Fox would renew Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, in part because the finale's ratings performance last week was solid and because a fourth Terminator movie comes out in 2009, offering promotional opportunities.  NBC's Knight Rider, meanwhile, performed well for NBC as a two-hour movie, and sources told the trade paper that the network is in talks with a show runner, suggesting that a regular series order is likely. As for CBS' vampire drama Moonlight, the trade paper reported that CBS is playing wait-and-see. The network will watch to see if fans return once the show comes back from its strike-induced hiatus. CBS' Jericho has only two episodes left in its short second season, and the network is expected to make a decision quickly so that producers can use one of two endings: A series finale or a season-ending cliffhanger. CBS notes that the show gains from DVR viewership and online viewing, but after its performance the past two weeks, most doubt that the show will get another reprieve.  The CW's Reaper has reportedly lost its way creatively after a strong pilot, leaving its future in doubt. Linky |

If these fuckers don't quit cancelling good shows I'm gonna just quit watching anything they put out. They get me all wrapped up in something and then cancel it. The Farscape debacle used to be an unusual situation, now it's a standard treatment for the stuff I want to watch. |

Yup. Personally, I thought Stanley went there with every intention of blowing his brains out, but I figured it wasn't very Stanley-like to pull the trigger in the end. He would put the gun to his head, he'd try to shoot him, but in the end he would. I'm sure Goetz thought the same thing I did, except when I went, "Oh shit!" Goetz went, "Oh... Hell."

Episodes 1 and 3 were semi-decent for ratings, but 2, 4, and 5 were all way down even from season 1's lows. It's gonna take a miracle for season 3 now.
