| I'm in So. NJ and looking for someone to "teach me the ropes" or point me in the direction of a study guide. Looking to get my General Class at the end of the month (found a test site) |

I used the Gordon West books to help me. I like the way he puts the info together and explains the formulas. If it is something that you simply have to memorize he tells you that too. Also the banks of test questions are "open". Meaning they are not a secret. You can read all of them. Check out the Ham Radio 101 thread and scroll down about 1/8 of the way on the first page. There are two links to pdf's that I found quite helpful. Never mind i linked them below. There are many out there, just do a search and find what works for you. Gordon West Books Tech PDF General PDF Hope this helps. Sorry I don't have any books to actually offer you, but I am new to this and want to use them as a reference point until I get the hang of this. Should be averagely proficient in 10 years. Then the material will be out of date. S |
Fixed the link to the General Study Guide. I'll take it on vacation with me, but I'm not swearing that I'll study it: I imagine the YL will find other things for me to do in Kona! |
I fixed your fix of the link. I like the ARRL books. Arrl Ham Radio License Manual: All You Need to Become an Amateur Radio Operator (Arrl Ham Radio License Manual) The ARRL General Class License Manual for Radio Operators (Arrl General Class License Manual for the Radio Amateur) |
