I've got the Motorola software... but finding a programming cable is proving difficult.

Got one off Amazon. Drivers loaded fine, but radio wouldn't communicate with PC.
Seller sent a replacement... same problem.

Using Windows 7 Pro and need a cable to program these HT750's.

Any suggestions ?

You need a RIB. The USB ribless cables are junk.

my MTX9250 (basically the same thing but 900MHz) was really picky and only would work from a real, non USB, serial port.

I bought a cable that was supposed to work from eBay, but neither my HT750s nor MTX9250s worked with it. I bought the old school cable for my RIB and have had no problems since.

The only ribless cable I've ever had any success with is the one for my XTS3000, and it's a straight serial cable.

I have a pair of CP200 HT's that programmed just fine with a USB cable...  so I wasn't expecting any issues with the HT750's.

Maybe I'll try programming from my old XP laptop first...  I wonder if it's a Win7 compatibility issue?

The software sees the port (com3) but pops up a communication error when I try to read the radio.

Honestly I'm not real familiar with the RIB vs RIBless differences. Most of my radios are newer Kenwoods that program like a breeze.

These Motorolas are a pain in the ass.

RIB = radio interface box. About the size of a pack of smokes, runs on a 9v battery. Goes between the serial port and the radio.

Something to try:  Many of the RIB-less programming cables that come from China have counterfeit Prolific chips in them.  If you let Windows install the drivers, the newer Prolific drivers will not work with counterfeit chips.

What I do is to install the drivers off the included CD before plugging in the cable, or I use an older version of the driver that you can find on the web.  I also disable updates on my programming laptop.

Yeah... tried all that.

I brought my XP laptop home tonight and tried using it to program the HT750's.
Same problem as the Win7 desktop PC.

I think the HT750's will soon be going on ebay.

I have a pair of CP200's that programmed like a breeze. Don't know WTF is going on with the HT750's.

I half wonder if it's something to do with the aftermarket programming cable.

I've already been issued a refund on Amazon.
Maybe I'll try a different brand/vendor.

Try a large multi-site trunked system. I've got hours and hours spent programming it into multiple radios.

That's why I switched over to Kenwood and ICOM radios.  Much easier to program, and the software is much cheaper to buy.  The last ICOM CPS I purchased from a dealer cost me a whopping $20!

I've already got several Kenwood mobiles and HT's. The Motorolas came to me very cheap and the software found online for free, so it was worth the effort.
I haven't given up on the HT750's yet.
Just gotta try something different.

"Professional Radio CPS R06.12.05" is what I have for the HT750's.

The CP200's were programmed with something else. That worked like a charm. Wish the HT750's were as easy.

This is the back of my desktop PC.

Win7 64bit operating system.

WTF do I need to connect this HT750 properly ?

I see RIB boxes... and different cables related to that...
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J6WC452/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A2WW3L0XHFUMGG&psc=1

Then I see HT750 cables with a small serial plug on one end that doesn't appear to work with the larger plug on the RIB box.

What am I missing ?

Do I need this: (plus RIB?)

Or do I need this to plug HT750 directly to back of computer ?

It could be the 64bit OS.

I keep a 32bit Win 7 machine on my bench for working on older radios.

I tried using my Win XP laptop with no luck... so I think it's a cable/USB issue.

The program opens fine and sees the port... it just can't see the radio.

Don't get the cable from amazon. Get the one you linked on eBay and this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Programming-RIB-Box-Kit-for-Motorola-Radios-as-RLN4008-/152448818353?hash=item237ea85cb1:g:zukAAOSw4CFYsHRz

RIB plugs into your serial port, radio cable plugs into the RIB. Install 9v battery and turn on and you should be in business.

I can't comment on the feasibility of doing it from Win7; I have an old toughbook that dual boots DOS and XP for all my programming needs.

Success !

Got both radios programmed and working great !

Bought a different cable and it works like a charm.

Grabbed this one.
Uses a 9v battery and plugs into serial port.
