Spent some time this afternoon replacing the FT-450D with an IC-7100. I captured the following video. Enjoy!

Ok, probably more like 50... Honestly, the rack drawer is what makes it unbearable. Moving the drawer to the back did balance out the weight overall, but yes, it's a heavy beast. I'll be looking for alternatives to get rid of the drawer. |

To give you an idea, I've owned an FT-897, and IC-7000, a 450D, and a TS-480, so I go through HF radios often. It's by far the easiest mobile rig I've ever worked with. I also love its DStar functionality. ETA a video I did on the 7100:

The bold part is REALLY why I am leaning towards this radio. My VX-8DR HT is a menu driven nightmare. This new interface seems to emphasize ease of use, and for a new ham like myself, that is a BIG seller. |

I would recommend a 480SAT over a Yaesu 8x7 any day of the week. It's the only radio that I regret selling. Can't compare the two because of the DStar factor and 7100 has VHF/UHF. Both are easy to use though. The 480 has a matching unit built in which helps a bit. You will be happy with either radio. |
