I want to hook my radio up to my computer (better way than I am doing now)
As of now:
I made a cable to go from my computer headphone to my mic jack on my radio
I type in what I want sent, push the "transmit" button on the radio then push the TX button on the computer
I use the computer's mic to receive the signal from the radio.

What I want to do is use the 8DIN pin ACC plug on the back of the radio.

The radio is an Icom 728. The details can be found here on page 8

Clear as mud?

At this time I have no money to buy a cable but I think I have all the connectors in my box.

Take a look at this link: ftp://www.ham-radio.ch/doc/Interfaces.pdf

It is an excellent guide to build it yourself and commercial interfaces.

Figure 13 is as bare-bones as you can get. Most of the good digital mode programs support the use of DTR or RTS for keying which is probably the way you want to go. You can blow off the LED 1 as it's just an indicator for PTT status. You can also blow off the transformer isolation although it is recommended. You can rip apart an old modem for a lot of this stuff if you've got any old modems laying around. Definitely use some ferrites on all cable ends if you've got them. Double check the pin-outs, etc.
