All I can say is wow.  I stumbeled across this section and have been searching the archives now for several weeks.  I have come to the realization that I have always had the "survival nut" streak in me since I was a little guy.  Having rode out Ike with being squared away, the neighbors even commented that I was really prepared.  They were also grateful that I pitched an extension cord over the fence.  It netted me a full tank of gas for the generator hank

Roger that, I will keep an eye open for one of the outings.  I am slowly ut steadily getting the wife onboard without actually pushing the issue (hurricane season does have its benefits).
