I just got my ticket and have a few questions prior to getting on the air. Radio is in the mail–– FT-60
1. As active duty mil I used my home of record address (TX) for my FCC paperwork and was assigned KF5NSN. I maintain my TX residency for all paperwork, taxes etc... and have a valid mailing address. I'm currently being reassigned to Washington state. Do I have to notify the FCC that I am moving although my residency on paper will remain the same? 2. In washington how will I identify myself on the air? Extra prefix or not? |

No, you do not have to notify the FCC of your new address,
And when in Washington State, just use your normal call sign. There is no change needed. It is kind of like the driver's license, if your in the military, and your on rotation, (moving around the world), your home of record is your home of record.

I kept my mailing address wherever my duty station was. As for operating in a location other than your FCC station address, some use a slash and number. I.e. if you're a 5 in 0 land, you'd do ""KF5NSN/0" Not everyone does it that way, some do to make it less confusing. |

When I deployed, I changed my address in the FCC database to my home of record in another state.
I did not change it back upon return and was 'called out' multiple times on the air for the FCC database address not matching my current mailing address (i.e. where I live). |

I suppose a strong argument could be made for both sides, keep it your HOR as well as change it.
Personally, I would keep it my HOR;if it's where your driver's license is and you pay taxes there and it's where you vote, it's where you live. As for IDing yourself..., just use KF5NSN. No extra prefixes or suffixes. Just you. Greg |
