I havent even gotten the whole story since hunting season was rough he had to head to Hawaii Im scared to eat the veggies out of the garden there now... Apparently next year I should get my out of state tag and not get left out. |

The ranch manager invited me out to help fill MLD tags and asked me to kill as many doe and mature culls I could. It was February and I hadn't planned on doing any deer hunting so only had my SBR with aimpoint on it. A big group of doe came in and I glassed them with binoculars and picked one out, noting that their was a button among them. Sat binocs down, deer walked behind bush and back out again, shot it and it ran about ten yards and was dead. The horror I felt when I walk up on it and saw nuts, I had shot the wrong deer. I was pretty embarrassed by it all but the ranch manager was cool about it and even invited me back out that evening, I politely declined. I now leave a spare bolt gun with a scope here at the ranch just incase. |

In KY the regs say "visible polished antler" He has protruding antlers, so I put a buck tag on him. Fortunately a standard TX hunting license has 5 whitetail tags and 3 of those are for bucks or does. I can still take 2 more bucks this year, so it's all good! |

But I tend to go against the grain and find things that people say cannot be done, but don't give good reasoning. Then i go out to either prove to myself or to others whether it can be done or not. I shot 2 last year with the same cast boolit, but it was not hollow pointed. While it did take the deer down, i wanted better disruption. It went straight thru out of my 1 in 8.5 twist barrel. I have found after harvesting 10 deer with subsonics, that a deep hollow point is needed to guarantee disruption. I have found that the 300whisper/300 blk tumbling effect, does work, for non expanding rounds, but only if I am shooting the slower 1 in 10 twist. the faster twist rate tends to make the round to stable to effectively tumble while still inside the deer with a broad side shot. |

Also for me shooting cast thru my suppressor does result in lead build up in the blast chamber as well as unmelted bullet lube. Powder coating eliminates that. there is a thread on here as well as a couple of threads on castboolits.com about powder coating powder coating thread castboolits powder coating thread As far as the blanks it all started with this thread 5.56mm blank to live round thread I happen to have a lot of 5.56 blank rounds, plus i just like to be contrary. |

First deer ever. My buddy and I were facing one way and this buck walked up 50m behind us. Broadside shot, saw it run injured and found it curled up about 75m away. Bullet took out both it's lungs and I found it lodge into it's opposite shoulder blade. The core went through but the jacket stayed back. S&W M&P15 using Hornady .223 55grain SP with 14.5 perm barrel. The bullet did it's job but I'm going to get some nice stuff for the next one in case of further shots. |

I got this beautiful MT Mule Doe on my 7th or 8th straight day of hunting. On previous days I saw lots of deer but they were either in areas I didn't have tags for and or in areas I didn't have permission to hunt. I shot this one across a coulee at 382 yards because she was the first taggable Mule doe I saw within my ability to hit all season. It was about a mile drag to the truck but that was made easier by the Skedco litter and the snow. And once I had 38 more pounds of venicen in the deep freeze the distance of the drag didn't matter so much any more. I would have had probably 45 pounds but the SST bullet just came apart in her shoulder. The butcher said that there was nothing left either shoulder or upper arms but blood shot and fragments of lead and copper. I finally loaded up some Barnes 168gr TTSX's so that shouldn't be as much of a problem anymore. The resulting velocity at 382 yards was 2380fps with 2075ft/lbs of energy. So even at medium range the SST comes apart when it hits bone. <a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/m1garand_man/media/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT06_zpsb61ff3f3.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f113/m1garand_man/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT06_zpsb61ff3f3.jpg</a> <a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/m1garand_man/media/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT08_zps5230f78d.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f113/m1garand_man/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT08_zps5230f78d.jpg</a> <a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/m1garand_man/media/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT04_zpsc0bcc92e.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f113/m1garand_man/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT04_zpsc0bcc92e.jpg</a> The tip of the bullet indicates where the entrance was. <a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/m1garand_man/media/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT13_zps002b0938.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f113/m1garand_man/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT13_zps002b0938.jpg</a> <a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/m1garand_man/media/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT11_zpsf2f6a27b.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f113/m1garand_man/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT11_zpsf2f6a27b.jpg</a> <a href="http://s46.photobucket.com/user/m1garand_man/media/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT09_zps1c6fefe5.jpg.html" target="_blank">http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f113/m1garand_man/2013NOV04MullyDoePlesantValleyColonyMT09_zps1c6fefe5.jpg</a> All tucked in and ready for the ride to the butcher.
