I found a case of 500ml bags of 0.9 percent Sodium Chloride IV Fluid at work that expired in 2005. The bags are all intact , no signs of leakage , the fluid is clear , no cloudy or floaters.
Question is ? Is this fluid still safe to use for a EOTWAWKI event or should I toss it? I know it is just Isotonic saline water , but could it go bad over time? |

Great idea Waldo, thanks!
We were always taught that as long as their was no precipitates in the solution, the integrity of the bag was GTG that it "could" be used in a last ditch type situation. "Could" and "should" of course are two very separate deals... I've had 3 year out of expiration date fluids put in me. I've put similar dated fluids into others. I didn't say I recommended that- read again. Probably the best use for old NACL that is still clear, bags intact, etc. is for irrigation fluids. I've heard of people using them with a drip set on KVO as a pseudo salt lick for deer. Never tried it though. Lowdown3 |
