Brag pic. My son won his school's inaugural inshore tournament ($500!!) with this lil' (17 1/2") Red near Caladesi (shrimp on a 1/0 under a cork). Me and another Dad had a blast just being the Capt and Mate and having the kids fish all day. They got a bunch of trout and some other small reds, no snook that day unfortunately. With entry fees, gas, food, bait, (beer), etc it cost the Dads about $500 to make $500 but the kids split the winnings and felt like big-time champs. Awesome day. |

It was his first time spearing so I pointed it out for him, then went to secure it on the spear shaft and it fucking bit me on the finger tip. So I put another spear through the bastard. |

Run into Warren Sapp down there? Apparently he got bit by a shark while lobstering in Marathon. |

When ever my tug is heading to the gulf in the summer season we always hear pon-pons from CG sector Miami and KW. Its pretty much non stop. The lobsters down there are much better than the Maine ones IMO. I love them. |

Reds are going crazy right now. Here is a 22" my son got Sunday. Took a freelined ladyfish chunk on a 1/0 circle hook, 15lb leader, drifting the transition from grass to sand to oyster bar. One of three we got in about a half hour. Look at the blue in that tail. Such pretty fish. Got a decent trout earlier that gobbled a DOA TerrorEyz Glow. We were targeting snook but this little guy was hungry. |

Let's just call this Grunt Day. Looking for grouper offshore as usual, but all we found were scads of grunts. Since we had 4 14yo boys on board, we anchored up and let them have at it. Pretty much had a hookup on every drop. Cleaning all those babies was a serious chore ![]() Tried trolling up some Kings on the way out and back, but no luck. Had either a Bonita or Blackfin break off a skirted ballyhoo (it left the swivel, looked like the wire came loose) but that was about it. Still, spending a Sunday 15 miles our in the Gulf on a great boat, with incredible weather, catching fish with a bunch of good friends, beats watching a Bucs WR sit out the National Anthem on TV. |

Every time I see a Tog it reminds me of Bill Engvall's comedy skit "Dorkfish"

I'm trying to embed a video... I don't know how. We got a nice mahi and went to the reef and I speared a 19" mutton.

Unfortunately it feels like we can never catch a break with the weather on the weekends. This past weekend was awesome though. Except Saturday. It was rough but we ran 20 miles offshore looking for the gulfstream and didn't catch a single fish. Today (Saturday) is beautiful and I'll be stuck at work chillin with my dog. Hopefully I can post some more pics in March. |
