Does anybody know any app that would allow me to send things like pictures using my Android phone and a hand-held radio?
I was thinking it would be cool to be able to take pictures of stuff with my phone and send them to a buddy when we are in the backcountry (have radio communications, but no cellular data) |

I think Andflmsg will do what you're asking about. I've been playing around with it using my Note 4 phone, Nexus 7 tablet, and KX3.

Would I need to root my phone to do that? |

Thanks! I got AndFlmsg installed on 2 android devices (a lot easier to install apk files than i thought). If the devices are close enough to "hear" each other should it work without radios? Im having trouble making them recieve.
My screen does not look like the one in your link. There is a clock in the corner, a welcome note and a line to send text. When i press send text nothing happens. |

Does anybody know how to download the pictures to your phone? I can't seem to figure out how to get them out of the program interface. Quoted:
Does anybody know how to download the pictures to your phone? I can't seem to figure out how to get them out of the program interface. The 5 pics I decoded from last weekends VOA Radiogram were, by default, copied to "Gallery" in their own folder named "NBEAMS-Images" (Narrow Band Emergency Messaging System). I would assume they're also copied to Gallery when you take a pic with your phone and send it through AndFlmsg. I think I read that the default storage location was Gallery in the AndFlmsg user manual which is available from the same location you DL'd the program APK file. Hope this helped! Quoted:
Successfully transferred a picture from one device to another. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks! bend, please share how you did this...what radios, antennas, etc. I have a buddy who lives on the other side of Indy, and we were discussing using VHF/UHF and a couple of those hand held Arrow yagi antennas and trying to use AndFlmsg ourselves to send and receive forms, pics, and messages. I think this is a great SHTF tool to know how to use. Thanks! BD |

Icom makes an Android app for use with the ID-51A+ handheld that allows you to take pictures with your phone or tablet and transmit them using a handheld radio.
The app does a lot more than that, but that is what you asked about. This requires no interface box. Just the radio, your phone/tablet and a cable. But of course you have to own THAT radio. Play Store |
