Hello all. I have always enjoyed the threads on pigs, mainly from Feral, so I thought I would share some pics of mine. I bought 2 cut males off Craigslist back in July. It was hard to find any piglets locally for a while.

Sorry for the large pic. I made a gravity feeder using a plastic barrel on the bottom, a pickle barrel on top and 3" pvc to drop feed down. For water I had a 100 gallon horse trough laying around but it is way to tall for pigs. I installed a pig nipple in the side drain hole. I put a cover over the trough so no light or leaves or dirt gets in. The water stays algae free, clean and cooler. Of course I cannot get the pigs to drink from it. They prefer the pools or a smaller trough.

That's a nice paddock. Your pigs will be happy.

Watch your fencing like a hawk. That woven wire leaves a lot to be desired in terms of keeping pigs in. Pigs like to dig up against fences. Once they've dug down far enough, they get a snout under the fence, lift up, and then they're off to the races.  A hot wire about 8" off the ground will keep the pigs off the perimeter and might spare you the "Shit, the pigs are missing!" moment.

I don't run a hot wire but I check my fence perimeter daily and use hog panels for fencing. I keep a big pile of topsoil available to dump into any big holes they're working on. I use the tractor for this as doing it by hand would be a nonstarter.

Good luck!

This happened to our neighbors a few months back and there pigs running like bulls downs the streets in Mexico. Quite numerous if you ask me, but only because they weren't my pigs.

I've kept mine behind 2 strands of "inteletwine" from Premire on Tposts.  One about 8" & the second about 18".  I moved it up some as they grew but they have enormous respect for it even now as they approach 300 lbs.

So far I haven't had any trouble with the fence. I've had goats in that fence for years with no escapes. The fixed knot  fence is tensioned very tight and is very strong. I've installed Red brand, high tensile multiple strands, chainlink and many other types of fencing. The fixed knot is the only thing I put up anymore.

Keep us posted on how things go.

Pigs attack fences differently than goats. I'll be quite interested to hear what your experience is.

We used to bury a 2x6 along the perimeter and nailed the bottom of the field fence to that.  It meant that you buried some of the wire and your fence was a little shorter as a result, but it made it pretty difficult for the pig to dig under enough to escape.

My pigs are almost done for the year.  Its my first time raising 2 pigs and I am amazed how much they dig the fence.  I have hog panels with fence posts about every 5 feet they dig like crazy.  Luckily they are too large to get under the fence and the hog panels dont bend.  I have also had problems with them tipping the water bucket and feeder over they break bailing wire like its string.  So now I am using ratchet straps and its working for now but like I said they only have about a week left before they go to be slaughtered.
