Anyone remember when the power went out on the east coast. it wasnt for long but there arent that many power plants that power the US a few big ones that supply the smaller ones. I see that being a SHTF soon if terrorists can get to them. When I lived in NY they did a special on the news about the local nuke pllant how anyone with a boat can just pull up to the dock from the hudson river and can pull on shore close to the reactor and it took the security over 30 minutes to respond. it was sad. I see that being a huge problem if the power goes out everywhere for 1-3 weeks.

One to three weeks is a nuisance.  The longest I have been without power is one week, during the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel.  My biggest fear in the electrical power area in this country is a cyber attack that causes transformers all over the blow.  I have read that if we were attacked in such a way to destroy every transformer in use today, it would take between 10 and 12 years to manufacture and replace them all.  That would be much more than a nuisance.
