| Issue is that for some reason my Mac is no longer recognizing the ftdi serial cable in Chirp. I recently installed a Yaesu compatible cable, so my baofeng/kenwood cable has stopped working. Thoughts? |

If you are running Windows 8 or 8.1 you probably got the driver FTDI pushed in a Windows update that kills the counterfeit chips. It changes the chip's product ID number to 0000 and renders it inoperable. Windows 10 doesn't have the nasty driver. The solution is to set your computer to not do automatic updates, roll back the driver to the previous version that was working, and then use the FTDI utility on their website to change the product ID number back. This whole process is a pain in the ass, and took me about 2 hours start to finish researching it. If 2 hours of your time is worth more than $25, just get on Amazon and order one with a genuine FTDI chip and never look back. If you are cheap and impatient like I was, it can be fixed. ![]() In the end though, I sprung for a real FTDI cable just for the convenience even after jumping through all the hoops to fix the fake Chinese cable. ETA Just read you are using a Mac. So ignore everything I said and go get a real computer. |
