I have one of these:

Does someone know or can someone who has one check when you get home... I have (only) one, and I'm trying to make sure I haven't broken it.  How do each of the ends of the dipole contacts connect (inside the insulator) to the coax?

I've measured continuity on mine and one side is connected to the center pin of the connector, but the other one does not have continuity to either the center pin or the outer "ground" area of the coax connector.

Is it supposed to be this way or did I break mine?  I had noticed a while back that one of the posts would spin, and I tightened the nut so it wouldn't, but just wanted to make sure I didn't break a wire inside somewhere.

Thanks

Now you went and done it. Boy, are you in a heap of trouble!

Dad's gonna yell at you, Wally. Gee! He might even hit you!

IIRC mine had continuity one to the center of the coax, the other to the shield.

Have several of that exact model. Yeah, a couple of mine had the studs spinning. Know whatcha' talkin' about.

Grab your ohmmeter. Center socket of the SO-239 gives continuity to one of the posts but not the other. Shield/ground of the SO-239 should give continuity to the other post. If not there is an open wire from the socket to the post.

Haven't had to take one apart for repair but I'd sure give it a shot.

Yeah, that is what I had in my head... and was afraid of.  The one that is supposed to go to the shield is dead.

The thing appears to be made from 2 halves that are welded together. Not easy to take apart.

Now that I sit here thinking about it, one of the screws on the SO239 is brass and the others stainless... and I stripped out the head of the brass one as it was pretty hard to turn... maybe that is where the ground wire was connected and why it was so hard to turn

Oh well.  You live, you learn, you come out of the experience $15 poorer

Thanks, y'all.  I'd sure have been pissed spending a whole afternoon trying to tune a dipole with half of the antenna dead.

With the studs facing you, and the SO-239 pointed down, the center of the SO-239 connects to the left stud
and nothing else.

The outside, or ground, of the SO-239 connects to the right stud and nothing else.

This insulator can NOT be disassembled without destroying it, so don't bother.  If
it doesn't work, replace it, exchange with the seller or Jetstream.

Sorry yours broke, but I think these are the strongest, best made center insulators made.

I've used the Jetstream JTCE1 center insulator for a number of projects, and keep a couple
in my ham stuff footlocker in the shack.  I had just measured one to trace which side connected
where.

Bummer.

Consider making your own. Doesn't look as cool but you may have half the parts already laying around. http://www.amateurradio.bz/feedpoint.html
