Ive been going camping alot latly and bringing my Ham stuff along , testing out my uncompleted go box. One thing Ive noticed ,the most convent place to set it all is the tailgate of the truck ,which is also the furtherest from easy to access DC. So a easy solution was to make this

One set of anderson power poles
I added the 4 wire to take care of another issue , the 4 wire is under the truck and doesnt have enuff slack for my bass boat trailer wiring . 2 birds 1 stone.

What circuit is it tapped into? Is there constant 12v on there for the brake controller or something?

Just a 12volt circuit on 7 way plugs , my camper uses it to charge its batteries on the road off the truck . I normally will plug it in doing peak usage at night in the camper to save the camper batteries because my truck has alot more amp hours , 2 standard group 31 batteries and a deep cell 31 on the frame.

My old boat I had also rigged it to charge the trolling batteries when on the road .

The brake controller uses another wire totally separate (normally Blue)  but all use the common ground.

ETA
If your truck is a Chevy or dodge it will have the diagram on the 7 way cover on the truck , not sure about the others .  But its nothing to them , the blank 7 way plugs run 7-10 bucks a piece. The truck side will normally run 20 to 30 bucks if your truck doesnt have one , Ive had to add them to all of my trucks except my last one , I even have a 7 way on my Jeep.

ETA diagram  On most newer vehicles the center pin is now Rev Lights .....

What kind of amperage can you pull across that?  I would think 15 or so would be pushing it.

My old trucks and my jeep I used 10 gauge wire and a 25 amp fuse on a seprate block .
My current truck had the seven way from the factory so Im not sure ..... Ill look it up though . Which Im not concerned about it because Im pluging it directly into my DC in on my go box to keep the batterys charged so its not a direct load when I key up .

ETA: my new truck has a 30 amp fuse for the 12volt feed ,but the wiring isnt as heavy as I like so I would want to push it to hard . But I guess it does anyway when I plug it up to the camper after a long weekend.

I would think if batteries could be charged through the connector, it would carry enough current to run the radio.

Great idea!
