The wife and I went to Wally World yesterday and got a few small things. Less than $25 worth. Picked up a package of cube steaks for supper.
When we got to the house and got ready to cook, we decided to have peas for a side dish. She asked me if we had any kind of potato dish that would go along with it.
No problem there, as I had put back a number of packages of some flavored, instant  mashed potato mixes.
She is not much of an instant potato mix fan, but said she would try them. I had eaten these type before, and they are very good by themselves.
She liked them after trying them, so next time I go to the store, I will not only get a few extra cans of peas ( even though I only used one, I get 3-4 extra each time I purchase anything that I use from our pantry ) as well as some of the instant, mashed potato mixes. I also plan to get a couple of the boxes of the scalloped and augratin style as well.
Another thing  that she brought to my attention that we need, is a few more canned hams. And as with all the stuff that we buy for the pantry, it will be rotated to the back to keep our stock rotated for FIFO (first in, first out ).
I have been trying to keep doing this, so that we have things in the pantry that we will eat, and to keep a good supply of the things that we use.
Using a set of calculations that I found on a food related website, I have been able to determine that at the present time, we have enough in the house to last us for about 3-4 months. I keep adding to this amount each time I go to the grocery by adding 3-4 for every one that we use.
After all the bills are paid this week, all the money that I have left will go towards food. Same with  the next check two weeks from now.
We are on our way to getting a 1-2 year supply put back for the hard times that seem to be ahead of us. It may take a while, but as long as we are able, we will get extra for this goal.
And as to the subject of hoarding.....OH PLEASE!!! This is not hoarding, just GOOD COMMON SENSE. Something that a lot of folks seem to be in short supply of these days.
SO for all the ones that do this, keep it up. This is for the future, that looks pretty bad from where I'm standing. And for those of you that are not doing this, or are just getting started, step up this part of your preparations. Contrary to what some people may think, things are not going to get better, they are going to get much worse than you could ever imagine.
