Can someone recommed a good decent priced SWR meter for a Ham Newb?  I don't have to much experience yet but I am looking into a SWR meter.  I don't need anything fancy but something that works and is understandable for a Newb.  Thanks!!

keep an eye on ebay.

i had to look for a few months but ended up with a decent working 2m/440 swr meter for about 20.00 shipped.

Daiwa makes good meters and are affordable.  Do not buy a Workman.  Workman is Latin for TURD.  Look on ham radio boards.  That is where I got mine.

I've got a Bird that has been in the case for a year, but that is probably overkill for what  you need.

Hey Wing25c.... I'm pretty new to all this too... I've found that the site EHam is awseome for their reviews of all sorts of Ham stuff... IF you find a swr or anything else see what other hams think about it on eham..

The old Drake W4 series, Swan WM/Siltronix, and Kenwood SW series are good meters.

However, if you get a good used Bird, you'll never have to buy another meter.

I don't disagree, but at least wait until you get your general and setup your first serious shack.

You need to read between the lines on eHam, and beware some of the "reviewers".  There are a few that seem to spend all their time test driving every radio ever made, and trashing them.  But overall, pretty good.

i was specifically warned about mfj and workman meters not only from the forums but from so local guys here as well. our hamfests are usually covered up with mfj meters that no one wants to buy.

Yea I noticed that... You get like 10 great reviews in a row on something then someone comes in outa left field and trashes it giving the item a '1'.. It's almost like they are intentionally trying to make the overall rating of that item go down..
