Super rookie amateur here.  I am in the beginning stages of hooking up an IC-V8000 in my truck and have the antenna and mount picked out.  I am curious about what kind of SWR meter I need.  I will eventually in the near future add a base antenna here at the house too so I need some info at what I'm needing for both applications.

Any ideas?

Wrong forum, I'm retarded sorry, Mods please move/delete as required.

We now have a radio forum

I just upgraded my SWR meter to a Diamond SX-600 which covers HF radio from 1.8 to 160 MHz (includes CB radio), and 140-525 MHz which is your 2M requirement. If you plan on getting a 440 MHz radio this sort of meter is what you'll want. If not you can get by with a cheaper one.

Universal-Radio has a good selection

I like this but if you do a lot of UHF antenna work you might want this instead.

I like the MFJ269, but am "stuck" with the Bird 43 that I bought about 20 years ago.

For someone who doesnt have a whole bunch of money to spend on an swr meter, what else would be a good option for dual band?

Thanks guys.

VRMN8R,
I have a Diamond SX 200 which does HF and 2m. It works very well. If you want one for 2m, 440 a friend of mine bought an Opek SWR-6 for about $60 and it seems to do the job.

I'll break from the pack here . . . if you put a good commercial 2M or dual-band antenna (like the incredibly rugged Comet SBB-5) on that radio and mount it properly, you don't need an SWR meter right now.
