I'm looking for a desktop/mobile scanner that will display CTCSS tones.
I have an old Uniden BC780XLT that I think should but I haven't been able to get it to work. Any recommendations..? |

I think that's what I have figured out. It takes several seconds. The transmission needs to be long enough.. Thanks... Quoted:

The 780 you have will do it but it's slow. I think that's what I have figured out. It takes several seconds. The transmission needs to be long enough.. Thanks... Generally, radios that have CTCSS search just scan through all the tones to try to find one that decodes. Takes CTCSS probably 200 milliseconds to decode, so maybe 5 per second. So can take a while. There is a "reader" that decodes CTCSS and DCS immediately without scanning, but it's more a piece of test equipment and not a general receiver. |

Does it jump around or display the tone consistently..? Quoted:

my Uniden BCD 996s will show CTCSS tones Does it jump around or display the tone consistently..? they both are pretty consistent. Are you trying to find the tones for a particular repeater -ham, PD, ems or fire? |
