I am considering getting a scanner and I need some help because I'm a bit of a scanner newbie. I want to be able to listen to the standard police/fire/ems and maybe coast guard and weather alerts. This is one of the scanners I have been looking at so far www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102425&cp=2032052.2032072&parentPage=family And doing a little searching I found this for my area. www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=3741 I'm not sure if that scanner is what I'm looking for or not so any advice would be welcome. |

Sorry, say that you are north of the border.... Not really sure if there is going to be any wholesale switch up there because of nextel or not. I would still say to register on radio reference (RR) and see what the locals to you advise. EDIT complete The pro-97 and 2055 (base/mobile version, they are otherwise the same) are great scanners. They should work just fine for what you posted, but I would suggest to register at RR and post in the local state forum for you and ask about what they would suggest. They might now of a new digital system (which would require a $400-500 scanner) that would soon be built. Also note that the 97/2055 scanner won't work on rebanded 800mhz systems after the system is rebanded (a process that could take anywhere from 6 months to 3 years depending on where you are). It's a long thing to type out, but only the top of the line scanners will work after that (only concern is 800mhz motorola systems, everything else will be fine anyway) when the switch takes place. Anyway, ask on RR and see what they say. |
