This was a targeted cull due to his broken rear leg. It was kinda' sad but also funny to watch him hobbling around trying to chase a doe. His leg swung below the knee like it was tied on with a string.

300BLK, 135 yards, facing/quartering, through the shoulder/lungs.

I think the injury caused his runted antler on the opposite side:

Barnes 110gr TAC-TX, handloaded by a friend. No complaints on the bullet; it's worked well on several deer for me.

Young one.  Had about 2 seconds to decide and went with BANG!.

300BLK, Barnes 110gr TAC-TX hand-load.

Quartering away, bullet entered way back. It was pushing against the skin on the far side. Exit:

300 blk.  125gr Nosler BT.  Heart shot at 40 yards.  She ran about 40 on adrenaline.  Very tasty doe for the freezer!

Went back to add that I shot this one with 20 yards of last years doe from the exact same stand.

14.5" Pinned BA barrel

69gr SP's
75 yards
Took out the tops of both lungs and knocked a decent chunk out of the spine. She didn't even jump or twitch. Just fell over. Was about 125 lbs which is the norm in my area. Excuse the flip flops and shorts...I was getting ready to hop in the shower when I saw her

I missed a nice 8 at 70 yards, in daylight, while using a borrowed thermal scope a few weeks ago.

Yesterday she stopped 4 feet from where the buck had stood and thinking of that kinda' ticked me off. So I shot her in the face.

Tikka T3 Hunter with iron sights made specifically for Alberts GMBH in Germany. .30-06 Springfield bought from the EE this summer
EAW Quick release mount (WELL worth the money, insane return to zero)
Trijicon AccuPoint 2.5-10x56 with red triangle post reticle

Ammo was handloaded 180 gr Woodleigh RN in front of 54 gr IMR4350 and a CCI LR Primer

Bullet went in and turned everything in front of the diaphragm into soup, broke the off shoulder and embedded into the tree behind him in 2 or 3 pieces. He went maybe 20 yards and folder pretty hard down the hill.

Picture doesn't do the damage justice, tried to get a good photo of his heart that wouldn't be too much for the forums.

1st hunt with my AR10 in .308. Got a double. Both at 150 yards. 178 gr eld-x did the job. Doe on my left ran 100+ yards without a heart or front shoulder and the doe on my right went 10-15 yards was all. I'm blown away by how tough these animals are!

1 of 5 last week with the new LaRue 6.5G.

The stamp is back. It'll be chopped to an as-yet-undetermined length after the season closes. Luvin' it but dang it! if I'm not constantly banging that long barrel/can into something.

This summer I built a 6.5 Grendel upper. so decided to give it a shot on deer.   Took this doe at about 150 yards quartering to me.  Dropped her in her tracks.  It was  with about 15 minute left in shooting light and I mis-judged the range, with her being a smaller doe that was also farther away.   Good double lung shot that also severed a couple arteries, but left the heart intact.  I was impressed with the 123 gr SST.  My dad was in a stand about 500 yards away and said the sound of the impact was about like he'd imagine hitting the deer with a softball bat.

Got this Axis doe. Anniversary gift from the wife. She got me a meat hunt on a local ranch.

Stalked her from about 400 yards or so. Got into a creekbed to get a good angle on her, and had to low crawl about 50 or so yards for a 185 yard shot. .308 165gr federal gameking out of my Larue OBR 18 inch barrel.

Axis Doe 185 yards from prone.

First kills yesterday with my new 6.5 CM. One doe in the morning at 150 yards. One in the evening shooting prone on a bipod at 250 yards. (No pic of that one). These were my hand loads that are 127gr Barnes LRX bullets.

My 2nd kill with the new 308 was last week in the morning at about 175 yards.  Factory 150gr Federal Fusions.

All shot were double lung/ heart. 308 doe fell straight down. Both 6.5 ran about 20-30 yards.

ETA it’s been upper 70’s all week. Unseasonably warm. I’m sweating out the last hour in a stand right now. 🥵

I like it.  It is a bit on the "tart" side if you will, but like all Cab Savs does go that way.  My favorite in years past to celebrate a deer hunt was Carnivore, but I couldn't find that this year at my usual place.

I've posted this already on here in other places.

Was my first scary black rifle deer and one taken with one of my handloads.  350 Legend w/170gr Hornady over H110

Also special as I took this with my Grandpa at my side...he's getting up there and I'm worried how many hunting seasons he has left in him

No ARs for me, but hopefully the rifles used the last few years are "scary" enough to fit.

2020, SCAR 17S

2021, PTR-91 GI

2022, DSA FAL

KS's rifle season starts next week, so hopefully I'll have another picture to post up with an M1A kill, but I'm not overly optimistic.  The pre-rut season was not encouraging.
