Does anyone hunt with a single shot these days?

For some strange reason here lately i've been tossing around the idea of either a double barrel or single barrel.

Something about the simplicity of a single shot that attracts me...its a throwback to the old days i guess..

So do we have any single hunters out there?

Trust me, you will want a double barrel.

Preferably an over/under.

I use my Great Grandfathers SxS nothing fancy, but I like the way it feels and it shoots great.

Thing about a SxS or OU you think about your shot more instead of blasting away.

I would consiider taking an o/u to the blind. It would be interesting. I find I don't shoot my third shot unless I'm cleaning up a wounded bird.

Dont get me wrong, i wouldnt only own a single shot (already have pumps/semi)

I just think it would be fun to take one out a time or two and kinda "go back to the basics"

I am now looking for a Stevens 220A (as well as a nice Huglu/CZ double)

I bought a single shot H&R .410 from a fun show and after my first dove hunt with it I was hooked.  I now kinda collect singles and .410 caliber shotguns.  I manage 5 dove lease properties and got a little burnt out on white wing shooting for a few seasons.  Now the fun has returned.  Next purchase will be a custom engraved .410 single.  I say go for it.  My thought also was that a single .410 is a great starter gun for my first son/daughter.

I have a buddy who dove hunts with me every year. Despite having a 12ga pump, and access to a variety of autos and doubles, he always hunts with his crusty old H&R style single barrel 20ga. We are of comparably equal skill (which is to say we are neither very good shots) and he usually kills as many birds as the rest of us. Hunting with the single shot 20 he has a tendancy to pick his shots more carefully and hits at a higher percentage. The rest of us burn more ammo, but don't really kill any more birds.

I guess I'm saying that a guy can do just fine with a single shot. That said, my next shotgun will probably be a 20ga side by side. There are several out there of reasonable cost that are nice light lively little guns. I currently shoot an 870 and a beretta auto, both 12 ga.

Been researching on the Yildiz doubles that academy sells, i've shot a few and really enjoyed shooting them...they handled great.

Thinking now about picking up a 20ga Yildiz special grade for 599.00.....

I let my buddy drag me out to another friend's property on Sunday to shoot a couple cases of clays with our friend, his older brother, and another friend of theirs that I met while fishing early last year.

I took my 410 and had five rounds of birdshot. I was 5 for 5 when we left and only missed a couple out of two boxes of 20ga. I think I'll put down the AR and my carry guns for a while and pick up shooting skeet again, it's been two years since I've shot anything that flew.

I have occasionally used an old Stephens single shot 20ga that was my grandfathers in the dove field.

I'm looking for another 36 inch H&R 10 gauge single for goose hunting. Shouldn't have sold the one I had. Now I can't find anything longer than 32". Single shots are a great way to get a good gun and save money. Sure doubles and autos are mopre popular, but nothing at all wwrong with a single shot. They've put a lot of game in a lot of freezers.

Why did you go 12 gauge?
