I usually head to the range on Wednesdays, but I got snowed out.  Instead, I thought I'd make a video about how easy it is to make a fire in the snow.  After spending the time in the peace and quiet of the woods, I realized it would be a shame to ruin the experience by narrating over it.

So, yes, this is just a video of me going through the process of gathering fuel, making and tending a fire, and safely extinguishing it before leaving.  I've always found these kinds of videos soothing to watch, and I thought some of you might feel the same way.

Good video. I like fires out in the snow too. Something about the calmness a good layer of the white stuff brings to the outdoors and the crackling of the wood.

I have subscribed to ya for awhile, have you always been in NC? For some reason I thought you were in OH or somewhere around those parts.

I've been in NC since 1995.  I grew up in the coal region of PA and basically had a mountain as my playground.  There was no internet when I grew up, so when my friends and I got bored, we would just head uphill, light a fire, and shoot the breeze.  I was always the fire guy because nobody else had the patience to do it right.

Copy, don't know why I was thinking OH.   We always had fire pits growing up and I had a really good friend that's of Native American Heritage. If we went anywhere out in the woods he would have a fire going almost immediately. Guess its always been a way of life for us. Nothing beats sitting around a fire, cooking up something to eat and relaxing with the kids on the weekends now. Great way to end a hard week at work, doesn't cost anything and best of all my kids enjoy it.

That was a great video and I enjoyed watching it.  Your camera and camera work are pretty good, watching your video reminded me of watchng Les Stroud (minus the narration of course).

One question - what knife were you using to break down the larger branch?

Thanks!

The knife is the new Tahoma Field Knife designed by Andy Tran and made by TOPS.  I have #002 for T&E and have been using and abusing it nearly every day for the past 10 days.  It's a really smart design.
