The coleman solar shower that is basically just a plastic bag with a hose and shower nozel on the end.

It is black on one side and clear on the other. The instructions say to lay it flat in the sun with the clear side facing up and it will warm the water to a comfortable shower temperature.

My question is this...

Would it still warm the water to comfortable levels in a winter(in my area below freezing during the day is rare) time situation? I would find it hard to believe that putting cold water in it and setting it out in the sun on a cold day would result in warm water...but I could be wrong, I suppose.

I may buy one and then test it out over the course of this spring and summer right one through next winter but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

Yes, it will still warm the water but it wont get as hot (maybe just warm).  In the summer those things will get your water too damn hot..  They are nice on long camping trips.

Interesting.

I saw it at the store an my mind immediately went back to when my area had an ice storm and no power for 2 weeks. It was either very cold showers, cold sponge baths, or warming water on a camp stove so being able to set a bag full of water outside and allow to get warmer rather than using fuel would be a big plus.

I think I'll get one and take it camping this summer and test it on cold days this winter and if it's all good I may put one away in the bug in kit with al the toilet paper and soap just in case there is another no hot water situation like that again.

+1  In the summer, it can get too hot!  I've used mine in the fall here, probably about the same as your winters.  It'll get warm enough.

how bizarre, i was actully just looking at one of those in the walmart camping isle about 4:30am this morning when i got off work, and wondering weather or not they really work.

hey it's a small town and there's little else to do at that time of day. it's prety much get drunk(i work at a bar beyond tired of drunks and getting drunk), set at the waffle house and listen to the drunks(again tired of this sort of behavior), troll around walmart, or go home and tinker with the toys, did put a forward k grip and tac light rail on my 10/22 while watching a recorded episode of lost the other night.

anyway i'm sold, i'll be adding one to the bug in supplies...
