My SIL has one of those million candlepower lights that was not working so I volunteered to fix it.  Charging jack which is supposed to interrupt the use of the light just wasn't reconnecting, simple desolder, clean and adjust so I take it outside to test...3 possums messing around in my pecan trees.  And they aren't stealthy.  They are the reason for most of my limb breakage even though some of the nuts have fallen.

I would have popped them with my .22 but to keep the noise down, I selected my RWS 48.  Brain, brain and then NECK shot.  The brain shots dropped like rocks but old neck shot just clung to the limb, bleeding and hissing.  So I proceeded to pump pellet after pellet in this possum, some of the Crosman Premier magnums clearly exiting.  Blood dripping everywhere and some 10 shots later, his grip relaxed enough so he fell, dead.

All big adults, now I have about 20 pounds of carrion to deal with.  No, some animals just ain't worth eating. And I have seen where these vermin crawl from.

Oh, those million candlepower lights?  Worthless compared to my 3 Watt LED 4 cell D Maglite.  And scopes for this work?  Anything 3 power and lower.

What, no pictures?!

And yes, spotlights are no longer that cool. Good job on the killing though!

Possums.......  I freakin' hate them.  Giant mutant rats.  I kill every one of them I see at my place.

And another one.  Sorry, no photo as they are nasty and need bagging ASAP since they leak once dead.

Brain shot, dropped instantly.

Their brains are quite small... not much bigger than a pea.

As you found out.... unless you manage to give them brain damage,
they are quite similar to a Timex watch.

I used to kill possums any time I saw them.  Nowadays, I only kill them in the daytime, assuming they are rabid.

Most of the ones in my neck of the woods are my garbage disposal units.  anything scarps my dogs do not eat, the possums tend to remove.  Works fine.

Again, they are destructive to my pecan trees.  So that is the reason for control.

Believe it or not, saw a possum on a major road in the bronx one night, in a shopping district...
