| Are the chicks that I can order from Tractor Supply good to go? |

Not mine, they don't know there ass from a hole in the ground. Bought ten chicks last year not a hen in the bunch, turns out the goofy bitch handling them was separating the strait run by color . Anyway that's just my experience with the locals ymmv. That sucks...looks like you have a bunch of fryers.... |
| The chicks are fine from TSC but do your homework before buying them. Some breeds can be sexed by color or a black spot on them. I suggest buying from a local hatchery if possible. If nothing is close check the internet, most hatcheries ship them through the mail right to your door. I get 100 chicks each year from Texas and I live in Ohio and have no problems in the shipping. Hatcheries will put in 4 extra for death loss when you get 100 and I uusally butcher 102 to 103 each year. |

From what I read they are very docile and are great egg layers. My Australorps are not docile to other chickens and are afraid to death of me. I think the Australorp being docile is a myth. At least thats my experience. My Rhode Island reds are way more docile and tame. The tamest chicken I got is a red star sexlink, I can walk up to her pick her up and put her down without her even trying to walk or run away. I am right now raising some Barr Rocks that I think will be the tamest yet. |
| My son has around 200 Black Australorps hens chicks and rooster and they are a very calm and gentle breed. The chicks are high strung until around 6months old then they settle down. We let our old hens free range in the barn yard and each night they go in the barn in the pen and we close them up. Never had a problem with them and in the winter they seem to be fairly nice to each other and don't peck each others feathers out. |

I picked up some of the Red pullets, already sexed and should be great layer. I got them last week and they are doing good and growing well. Working on my coop now. I have the wife talked into letting me get some chicks. Gonna swing by TSC this weekend and pick some up. |
