You can chalk up another convert to your be a ham and buy a baofeng HT thread in GD.
I just got back from taking my tech and I got it with only 2 wrong. They goaded me into taking the general too. Surprisingly I was within 2 questions of pulling that out of my 4th point of contact. I will be kicking myself for a while, but truth be told I would really rather know the information inside and out as opposed to guessing my way to general. They have another testing session scheduled in 2 months and will be ready for it then. Thanks again for all of the great info here and all that you all reinvest in training the "young" hams out there. |

Look into finding some IRLP repeaters in your area, you can use those to get out to the world on a HT. Also down load Echolink on your smart phone and check out some of the echoirlp links out there. Im on "Hi-Gate" conference a lot which is linked into the Western Reflector 9250. Have fun and congrats. |

I attended my first Ham radio club meeting a few weeks ago. Several folks mentioned that lots of testing sessions were seeing increased numbers by a large margin. Any other initiatives that might be causing a sudden attraction of folks to Ham radio? |

Testing in three weeks, hitting the practice exams daily. Tech will be a breeze, General is looking good, and I'll try Extra just for giggles. |

Where are you in IL? Not your address but major highways or city. I can get on my HT and see if you hear me from Las Vegas if you want. Scott |

You dead center between two nodes, both are about 65 miles away. One to the east, the other to the west. One of them is on top of a 180' tower but that still a little far. Long shot but we could try it someday if you want. |

Its a little far for 5w and a j pole but depending on how much power he is running on his node, you might hear me if I called out through it. Maybe. Just download echolink on your phone and you can get out of IL at least. If you do, check out "Hi-Gate" conference. |

That was quick 4 days from test to ULS. They had to have overnighted them in.... ARRL provides the VE with prepaid envelope and all the testing material. Usually goes USPS priority flat rate envelope if the VE is doing it the way the ARRL says to... That's what part of the testing fee covers, along with the material etc. Otherwise congratulations!!!!! Pretty neat when you finally see your call... *(Short story)* Then realize you have no one to tell who will really be interested so you post it on ARFCOM |
