Just beyond my slip stick days I purchased an RPN calculator, a Corvus 500. I just opened it up and discovered a leaky battery or two has killed the tabs in the battery compartment. Also, some of the buttons have lost their tactile bump. On my phone, I have a 42S RPN calculator. It's a clone of something but IDK what. I should work with it more often. "Thanks for the memories."

The HP 48 app on my phone is faster than either of them. I wish I still had my HP 41. |

In college in the early/mid '80s, my room mate had a TI (Texas Instruments) of some kind. I kept telling him to get an HP. One day, during exams, he comes back and is PISSED. The TI started doubling up on numbers, so you pressed 4, you got 44. Not every time, about half the time. But during an exam, that gets very stressful. When he got out of the exam, he threw the TI against a block wall. Yes, he got an HP after that... |

| My experience with HP calculators started during a college chemistry exam. I broke my Sharp algebraic calculator just before I got to the classroom, so I was stuck with an HP 25 that was bolted to the table. I had no fucking idea where the equal key was, so I bombed the exam. I made it a point to learn RPN shortly after that and got a 48SX. Once you learn RPN, especially with an unlimited stack, it's hard to go back to algebraic. Currently, I like the Prime which gives the user a taste of both worlds. |

When I first got a job out of college, my bosses had their original HP calculators, and one had the survey and road modules in it. That calculator recently died. Currently NCEES (national testing agency for only allows the HP 31s & 35s, which were way out of my price range in college. I ended up with a Cassio fx-115 which is sitting next to my keyboard as I type this. It was only $45 when I needed to purchase a calculator, not $500, plus it did integrals and unit conversions. I never did like the 13, enter, 5, enter, minus method of operations on the HP. |

My father bought an original TI-55, with red LED display and a nicad battery pack, in the late 70's. In the mid 80's I got a TI-55 III. It lasted me all the way through engineering school in the early 90's until my roommate borrowed it for her Math 5 class (algebra) and stepped on it. Stupid twat. |
